Here in California, business is getting crushed, can't ignore government anymore. The only "safe" people are the greedy public sector union folks, they are killing CA and imploding the system. I work to give half of it back.

I see it completely the same way here - because of different business opportunities for the energy business, thinks look better, but below the surface, exactly. I work for the military on a large base right now and its all around me, everyday.

Only if you don't believe nationalized health care is their intention. Part of the strategy is making private-sector health care unaffordable.

This is what happens when a program is rammed through with out proper study , consideration, and negotiations:
Pelosi's infamous line - "We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it..."

1) If the fine(tax) is lower than the cost- who is going to do it?- thus defeating the whole reason for the requirement
The 'penalty' doesn't provide coverage, so they'll still be uninsured. The whole reason is to coerce people into getting coverage, preferrably the public option, and to get some reimbursement from people that receive 'free' health care. Of course, this only works with the people that are filing tax returns.

2) The taxes and change in tax policy regarding those companies that already offer health benefits(the ones you would think would be the good guys) have raised the cost and lowered the benefits at most companies (something I think we have all seen) This has probably hit the middle class the hardest
The middle class is getting hit the hardest as they are squeezed from all sides - stagnant/reduced incomes and increased costs. Obamacare has imposed new costs onto insurers with some of its most popular provisions (e.g. pre-existing conditions and removal of annual/lifetime caps), so insurers had to raise their rates even more. Most employers passed those increased costs onto their employees.

I believe the President meant well and I think we think the concept of Universal and affordable health care for all is a good thing, but his myopic view of things and failure to grasp the big picture are a killer. I am sure the vast majority out there thought that "the rich will pay for this", but in fact it is the Middle Class that will bear the brunt--(the rich will avoid the whole thing by dropping out of the system and see their own concierge Drs
The wealthy will avoid the nationalized health care, but they'll still have to subsidize other people's care. The 'rich' (income>$250k) are now helping pay for Obamacare with new taxes that went into effect this year - a 3.8% surcharge on investment income (e.g. 25% increase on the 15% capital gains rate) and an additional .9% medicare tax.

IRS: Cheapest Obamacare Plan Will Be $20,000 Per Family
January 31, 2013

- In a final regulation issued Wednesday, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) assumed that under Obamacare the cheapest health insurance plan available in 2016 for a family will cost $20,000 for the year.

Under Obamacare, Americans will be required to buy health insurance or pay a penalty to the IRS.

Read on:
http://cnsnews.com/news/article/irs-cheapest-obamacare-plan-will-be-20000-family#

I don't think this even takes into account the illegal aliens obama wants to give amnesty to, if they are included, 11 million, the cost will probably go up $25-30K.

DD, you need a donation for your plane ticket to New Zealand?

Nope, staying put, USA still worth fighting for. JOE, you forgot to take your Cymbalta today?

Cymbalta? Why would I need that? I'm not depressed...I'm making all kinds of $$$, business is booming. Learned long ago that whining on HB about Obama does little good. Now...put your big girl panties on and despite your (political) circumstances, make something happen. No one is gonna feel sorry for you...

Good for you JOE, make sure you put some of those pesos aside. So what kind of business are you in?

Joe, arent you in Texas? You will end up seceding from the Union anyways.

Hahahaha.....CNS News!? Seriously!? They make Fox news seem like a left wing rag! I'll listen to them as much as I'll listen to Mother Jones.

Dugout Dad, you should really stop the politics and get out and just enjoy life. Bitching about politics just makes one miserable. Oh, and come up with some better resources than CNS News. They have an agenda....but I guess so do you.

Thanks for your concern.
Ok, CNS vs MSNBC, CNN all equal.
I understand "the never talk politics motto" but for the first time in my lifetime, one-sided politics is affecting a large portion of the U.S. population, I find that very troubling. I am not miserable, just informed. During the debates, I was watching CNN and MSNBC to see what their take on the debates were, I knew what FOX news was going to say, I wanted to get my own balanced view. I find that communication, like using The Pub, is a good outlet for me, very relaxing. Btw, it is The Pub, people can read and interact if they want, it is not being forced on them. I have many liberal friends and our friendship is above politics. I am enjoying life, but I want my kid to have the same opportunity I had, I am not sure she will, the deficit is a scary issue for the future of our children. Also, here is a shocker, I used to be a big time Democrat. :o Even though, my first presidential election where I could vote, I voted for Reagan. I was obviously confused.

So, let's revisit this topic in 2016: How many of you think that obamacare will actually be more affordable than your present health plan? My guess is that it will be at $20K.
