May be different in your neck of the woods...but this is what comes to mind for me..

Before you criticize, walk a mile in their shoes ... In addition, HS Ball is not mandatory but often very fun for gals ( your DD can opt out - there is always Chess Club ) ... They get a chance to play with their friends, have a different coach, be the best on the team, get their name in the paper and a thousand other reasons ... Coaches face many more challenges coaching HS ball ... No recruiting, lack of talent etc etc ... Often requiring them to play gals out of position ... Even if your DD is the best first baseman on the team she may have to play center field because no one else can play center and they can't recruit ... My DD's had very bad HS coaches but chose to continue because they enjoyed it ... Go figure

Not necessarily the coaches I dont like about HS ball...per sei...Remember its REC ball with nice uniforms here...its the fans that I cant stand more than anything...Plus we play a lot of games of SP fields...one is like 400 ft....Funniest thing is when you play there they think its a proper size for a FP field...

Don't sit with the fans. My two girls have spanned the last 7 years of high school ball - and 2 weeks into it, I realized I really don't need to listen to the wisdom coming out of the stands. I bought a nice XXL folding chair and place it down on the opposite side of the dugout - perfect except now and then I get followed over there.

Not at all ... My ability on the Chess Board could be made fun of though ... Merely pointing out that in most schools that there are other options besides softball ... LaX - Spring Soccer - Track - Band etc etc ...

Pale Rider - Don't sweat the 400 foot fence, you'll probably see some pretty rough fields ... As Donnie says stay away from the HS Parents, the gossip, coach & player bashing ... Support your DD without being overly critical of her team mates & coaches ... In watching 7 years of HS Softball and the worst coaches you could imagine, I lost my cool once ... I advise against doing that ... Most will tell you to get a good camera and take lots of pictures ...

Exactly - and if during the game, some big guy leans over to you and says "That's my daughter in left field - she is so proud of that glove - that's her first glove ! I bought it Saturday at Walmart. " , shutup, take your chair and go sit out by the fence.

A fence???? Out of 18 schools in my DD's HS league only 5 had a fence!!!!

HS is was still fun. You play for your town and friends-not the comp of TB but stioll a blast. In many ways the the season 1-2 games a day but over a stretch of time better wmulates the College season.

Agree about the fans(and sometimes the coaches-sorry G)

I will miss the roadtrips out of town with parents who are some of our best friends. Our kids grew up playing sports together and we've had so many great experiences over the years. There are 5 couples who still get together a few times a year and we had all the girls over to our home at Christmas for a re-union now that they are freshmen in college. It was a blast.

I have to admit I've blocked my calendar for the dates when DD's HS plays their two arch rivals this spring.

Same here - though my kid's travel teammates graduated a couple of years before her, she played with and made a whole new group of friends. We've made a couple of the pre-season games so far and will continue.
