Making 18A Relevant

What's on your mind?

by OCTravelCoach » Wed Dec 17, 2008 11:35 am

As I said in my post, we're going to 18UA. I've got an 8th grader, a bunch of freshmen and sophomores and one junior (my DD). It's where we belong. Yet my fears are trying to find players.
Right now I've got 11 (one is injured) and I really need a solid 13 to make it through summer.

I suspect players will eventually gravitate to 18UA after failed tryouts for Gold teams which means we won't find players until early June.

I also worry about the level of competition. I'm not seeing alot of 18UA teams out there, although I know there's sure a heck of a lot of Gold teams that don't belong there.

To be honest, your kids should really be playing 16U.. Good Luck!

The other 49.5 states are hoping SoCal never makes 18A relevant as it is the sole division that the other 49.5 states have a great chance of winning.....

BS. It's not relevant here either. 18A Nationals had 2 Texas teams compete in '08 versus the 16 from CA. Gold- 12 from TX, 18 from CA. Typically, if you don't qualify Gold here, then you stay home.

The only reason we have so many teams classified as 18A vs 18G is because they can compete in more tournaments, more chances to play. But they all try to qualify.

Don’t tell that to these teams..

Based on 2008 results, maybe SoCal should try a little harder. Best finished 25th…

25th ARTESIA PUNISHERS
25th AMERICAN ATHLETICS
33rd AMERICAN PASTIME
33rd SAN DIEGO LEGACY
49th OC DYNASTY
65th 3RD DEGREE
97th AMERICAN ATHLETICS

Face it Sam, you got your “balls” stepped on. You’re just another 18A team now! It’s time to man up, gather some positive thoughts, and focus your efforts to go win the soon-to-be “relevant” 18A show.

See you at 18A Nationals!! ;)

If the junior weren't my DD, we'd stay in 16s. Don't think I'm up for starting an 18U from scratch with 1 player ......been there, done that.

No one in So Cal even bothers with 18A except some teams that would get boat raced by the top 5 finishers at 14U So Cal State. The results you posted reflect nothing more than that.

Well, if they are doing that, then they are playing 18A illegally...once you compete in a Gold Qualifier, you cannot go down to 18A.
