12U Teams

by asmackdaddy » Fri Dec 19, 2008 8:41 am

Here it is, MY OPINION. If you don't want to know it, don't read it.

Peppers- They have finished at the top consistantly in every tournament this Fall. They have added talent and once that begins to gel, this will be a very strong team. Coaches know what they are doing but will have challenges keeping 4 pitchers 2 shortstops happy.

FB Thunder- Also a consistant team with great coaching a lot of talent. Opposite of the Peppers, their depth has to be their biggest concern with 1 Ace and 1 offspeed pitcher. A strong offense with some speed, a defense among the best, lacking a little behind the plate.

Bandits- They can beat anybody at any given time, but they have to show up. Offense is hot and cold with a few week spots in the lineup. Pitching is among the best. Speed and base sense is their weekest link. Saw them on eteamz looking for 2 players. Coaching is good but not great, the coach calling pitches should go back to calling 3rd also.

Aces- Pitching among the best if the Ace heals and gets back to true form, pretty much the only reason they make the list. This core traditionally has a lot of change in the off season so we will have to wait and see if they can keep what little talent they have and pick up some offense to support their 4 athletes. One of the weakest offenses on the top 10, but pitching can win some games.

Redhots- My guess, the teams listed above want no part of these guys. A great 97 team, but a 97 team none the less. One of the best defenses around, average to below average pitching, good speed and some power with the bats. No doubt the strongest 97 team around.

Kaos- Can't wait until Spring to see if they even have enough players to field a team. I am guessing they will have to pick up from the 97 team now. This team lives on speed, they do not have dominant pitching or big bats, but speed can win games also. Defense is good but not great. Also great coaching but he will probably have other commitments in late Spring.

Cy Fair Shock- Above average pitching, good hitting team, good defense, good speed, but they need to put it all together to remain competitive with the stronger 96 teams. Respectable team that has always been competitive and won games.

Power- They appear to have lost a couple players and were not all that strong to start with. They have great coaching but needed to add a couple more players before they lost a couple, so I see them 3 or 4 players off pace.

Ice- Everybody has to be expecting something to surface here. Coach has always managed to put a competitive team on the field, the only question is, has he burned all those bridges and can he attract the talent he is known for.

Sting- Picked up 3 decent pitchers to finish the season and still came up short. If they keep the 3 pitchers, and the big guy remains running the show, they could attract another player or two and make a run at it. Although, the big guy will have to pass the torch to someone if April/May so he can back to his Gold team.

Riptide- They have most of the same players they have had for years, but they don't seem to be getting any better. They have lost some games to some below average 97 teams. They don't have any confidence

I would have to agree with asmackdaddy on his post.

Here it is, MY OPINION. If you don't want to know it, don't read it. - That was good.

Peppers - Consistent team and has managed to be there on Sunday for every major tourney in 2008. Keeping everyone happy will be all on the coaches. Will qualify for ASA.

FB Thunder - This team has players that want to win, these girls continue to fight in every game. - Will qualify for ASA.

Bandits - The coach has had a strong team before, but will he get it done in the Spring. The talent is there to knock out any team listed. Heard one of his pitchers is not happy and could be looking... just a rumor and may not have any truth to that. If they are firing on all cylinders in the Spring they will qualify.

Aces - Their Ace could be gone for next 3/4 months, (Wish her a speedy and healthy recovery). They ran out of gas last Spring and not sure what will happen if they are not winning games come early Spring. They have players that are known to jump ship.

RedHots - The best 97 team in the Houston area, I would expect great things to come from this team if they continue the same pace. This team likes to play the top teams.

KAOS and Sting - Their coaches may be gone come late Spring time to work with their older teams. Passing the torch before ASA tourney could be hurtful. None the less both are teams that can win and if they pick up 2 or 3 more top notch players they have a chance to make it to ASA

Ice - Have talent but not consistent enough to get to the ship repeatedly. They will give you a run for your money and a slip up will cost you the game. They can beat any team listed, Ice coach can usually make something happen in the Spring. Will history repeat itself? Get it together and they may have chance to qualify for ASA at the end

Shock - Have not seen much of them this fall, they are scrappy and with their pitching will get them thru a lot of games. Would like to see Shock play in more tourneys with the top teams.

Power and Riptide - Living on reputation of the past. Both teams have played more tourneys with 97 teams than playing the top teams.

Fury – Making some noise at the end of fall with some notable wins, let’s see if they keep the momentum in the Spring time.

Just heard through the grapevine that the Bandits just got better. They have obviously picked up the best player off of the Sting. This team is definitly going to be a force now.....adds another stick, speed, and good glove. My #1 pick for the Spring. Thunder #2, Peppers #3.

PAAALLLLEEEEEEZZZZZZZ! UNBEATABLE? Do you really think one player can make a team unbeatable? Do you really think any team is unbeatable? Maybe they will not get beaten anymore by 97 teams, the Pearland Bandits are definately beatable. They may have got the best player that was left on the Sting, but the best 2 players from the Sting had already left and are now on the Peppers. If you want to talk about "UNBEATABLE" maybe you should be talking Peppers, they added some talent and cut some fat... and have better coaching.

I will agree that the Bandits were good, and probably got better. But they have several 2/3 tool players that have their share of weeknesses.

Maybe you should start a knew thread "UNBEATABLE TEAMS"

Pretty sure the Burito dude was not serious and was making light of the previous post.

You Asmack on the other hand bit hard and showed your true colors. Why don't we just give all trophies to the Peppers and not play any games this Spring.

There is no such thing as an unbeatable team, I am sure all will agree.

I think the top 3 12U teams is South Texas are unquestionable (in no certain order) Bandits, FB Thunder and Peppers. These are the best without question. Peppers got better adding a couple players at the end of Fall, Bandits got better adding a player recently, and the Thunder is returning their entire team and looking to add a pitcher, if they get the right one it could put them on the top of the list.

I hope these teams try to compete with one another as much as possible so they can all get better and represent Texas well at Nationals. People should not care how they do against each other or which one is #1, #2 or #3. Get focused on the BIG picture and the LAST GAME OF THE YEAR!
What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.
