Another rec tournament story comes to mind. My older DD is not athletic in any sense of the word, but she did play rec softball. Her last year, she played on one of the better rec teams in the county, so she was the last batter, naturally. During the county rec tournament, the team was in a tight game, with two outs and a runner on base. If only they could get to the top of the batting order they would have a chance to win. But my DD had to bat first, and the only way she ever got on base was by a walk. So one of the coaches takes her behind the dugout and teaches her how to bunt on the spot. She goes to the plate and lays down the most beautiful bunt down the 3rd base line you have ever seen, and makes it to first. The opposing team acted like they had never seen someone bunt the ball before. The opposing team parents were stunned as well, and I swear I heard one of the parents say, "No one ever bunts in this league!" Our dugout goes nuts. The top of the order comes up and DD even makes it home to score a run. Our team advanced, but unfortunately, they didn't win the championship.
And DD never played softball again. "I'm not any good, Dad," she said. "But you're the county bunt specialist!" I tried to convince her. But younger DD was coming up the ranks and was already showing that she was the athletic one in the family, so sibling rivalry won out.
