Winter Tournaments

by jag1 » Wed Dec 17, 2008 4:19 pm

It's just the perception of the teams I have seen play in the last few months. Obviously, Troy's team is too strong for anyone from Indiana (and KY., Ohio, Michigan, and probably Illinois..!). As far as the rest, I have seen the lower third tier teams put it on the top second tier teams and everything in between. My second tier teams seem to be a little more well-rounded (Explosion'93, Dreams, Fire...who were w/out a couple of their better players last weekend.) All of my third tier teams definitely have areas that could use some work, or could be exploited. I will agree the Terror has improved, but they probably have one of the best unknown pitchers in the state carrying the load, Morgan Spivey, a freshman from Connersville.!

Troy's team probably is the best hitting team in the state. They all have good power, and hit with authority, plus they have good team speed. Their pitching is good enough to carry them, while the sticks pound away. I did see them make a couple of bad plays on defense. But for playing in their first tournament essentially, they came out of the box firing on all cylinders.

Spivey maybe an unknown in central Indiana, but Connersville thinks she is the second coming of Finch. We'll see how she holds up pitching 8 games a weekend.

On a side note, Southern Force has reloaded and looks pretty good again this year.

Don't forget the younger Dreams either!! Both Dreams teams will make some noise this summer! the Dreams you saw this weekend was a combinations of Reese and Leming. they were ask to fill in late for someone who dropped. Neither team is doing much this winter with Bball and everything else going on! They'll both be ready come the middle of June! both teams have multiple girls who could go very deep in high school ball! New pal, FC, Riverton Parke,CG,Lebanon, to name a few!

I noted this in another post, I don't get to see many 16u teams since we decided to play 18u. I do try to watch the better 16s during down time in tournaments where both 16u and 18u are playing. The Dreams team we played at the Sportzone had some talent. Do not know who they beat during the tournament to get as far as they did but it was a good showing on their part. No doubt those girls will be an asset to their respective high schools.

those Dreams '94 kids have really worked hard and improved their game, alot of credit has to go to their coaches and parents. Whatever they're teaching them obviously works..!

The Shockwaves 93 appeared to be missing two or three starters for the entire tournament in Fort Wayne. Depending on the lineup that Troy wants to pencil in. He seems to have added talented depth for 2009.

The Dreams (Reese) should be considered a top tier 16U team. They hit, have very solid pitching, and Chris has them playing hard.

The Dreams (Leming) will also be very good, if Eric can add the couple of players he is looking for. He has a very good core of girls, that always show up ready to play.

Come on Jag - we know you are fishing here....your team came in 3rd, with a sick coach and all. Good job. :)

The lightning are from Michigan. Not a bad little team.

no, really not sure how the whole consolation bracket is figured into the final order of finish..! I remembered the Finesse as being very strong in the past, but the kid from the Lightning had as good a rise ball as I've seen at this level..(I just hope our kids can learn to lay off of it..!lol!) we're going to skip the Valentine tourney, hopefully we'll be ready for the end of Feb., looks like a really strong tourney..!
