Rick Pauly (Sarah's dad) and Ssarge had a great one going 3 or 4 years ago that was pretty detailed and included angles and slo mo of Sarah. Now sorry I didn't keep it.

It doesn't mean that pitch doesn't look like its rising. It's fooled many great batters.

No, none of them ever really debated a rise ball. All they do is invent their very own criteria for what constitutes a rise ball then debate against it by talking about nasa and RPMs.

Not a single one of them has ever offered reasonable debate against a rise ball. All you have to is look at one. Yep, it rose. It ended higher than where it began.. hence by dictionary definition - End of real debate.

The rest is some other debate they invent on their own. They are not discussing softball's pitch called a rise ball.

If someone on some message board can convince you you are not really seeing a rise ball (by softball's and the dictionary's definition, not by some definition you invent)

Then I dunno what to tell you.

if that's the definition of a riseball then my 8u those a killer one! except i call it a high fast-ball or a wild pitch over the backstop. i had no idea she threw that pitch. now i can honestly say she throws 3 pitches ;)
thanks wade :)

Hey youre welcome.

And with practice, she might start throwing it good. For awhile it may go over the back stop or behind her, try not to be too negative about that though. At least you are still calling her pitch a fastball - it would be a shame for you to get out a calculator and make her realize that she is not throwing fast.

Practice will be the key, spin, hand placement, and posting - keeping back. Practice and as little assistance as possible from someone who thinks a riseball is impossible if she ever hopes to succeed.

Have her watch Jenny Finch explain the rise ball, how it works, and how to throw it successfully on my link, for a start. Have her watch that ball rise up on the video.

And glad to help ya.

Well...LOT OF PAGES written about how you CAN'T, and should AVOID, hitting a "riseball". I've retired from the sport, AS A LEGEND, of breaking MANY PINATAS as a child!! How many times did that supposedly smart parent fool other kids by pulling on the rope at the last second to fool these obviously rec pinata swingers!! I always waited for the moment to swing when the pinata would "rise" magically and KNOCK THE INTESTINES out of it!! I broke more pinatas that were over my shoulder than waist-high. If your dd can't hit this "similar" rise pitch....send me your home address so I can invite you to my next kids fiesta and put your dd at front of line during the pinata....she wont break it. So height and age wont be a factor in the order the line. She'll be in front of the toddlers!

BRING A GIFT and I'll know I could put your dd at the FRONT of the line when we break the pinata!! Height and AGE will not be a factor when I put them in order!!

Hmmmm very suspicious little story

X=yZ

2x(14)125Ly=M7(19.2)/32*
*<):-)
carry the 1.

100$Lz(x)
~(8(|)

420$Vr(p)
=^..^=
equals clear
PROOF!
Pulling a pinata rope would defy the laws of gravity.

Just as my intuition always told me, now proven by math.

So does a drop ball really drop, or is it just a fastball that is going in a downward angle, or is gravity just pulling it down?

I like that and by your simplistic definition, you are right. If measured from the ground at release, then measured from the ground at the plate, it is higher. But as sball14 said, that means every pitcher has a rise and it is just her speed as she gets older that make it a "good riseball". What makes it good is the speed and angle of release, not the upward curvature, and if a batter can recognize and adjust.

The debate has always been over whether it jumps, curves upward, or hops. It doesn't. If video on Cat, Finch, and Abbott can't prove it, I don't believe it. The only reason I read what these experts (Parker, Hillhouse, Skinner, Pauly, Ssarge, etc) have to say is because I am interested from a hitters perspective.

In the end, who really cares? It is a highly effective pitch.

Stop using logic and science. Riseball believers prefer "Intelligent Design".

What a treat. One rarely get's to witness such carefully rationalized stupidity.
