It's not people that need convincing.

It's video cameras filming riseballs in profile that aren't convinced. It's the computer software used to track the flight trajectory of the ball that isn't convinced. It's gravity that isn't convinced. It's the study that shows a ball spinning beyond the the limits of human capability and still not "hopping" above it's original trajectory, that isn't convinced.

Well hell, I had no idea.

You know, every since I saw forest gump shake JFK's hand, I gotta see it for myself. No internet buddies of nasa guys or animated pujols gifs convince me of anything.

Lets see your evidence.

Wade, the test was two years ago as I recall, the pitcher was Sarah Pauly, Scott Sarginson, a travel coach from California and Sarah's dad Rick, a pitching coach were the ones involved. It was written up on eteamz - maybe some clever person can find the thread. I think the test started with all 3 believing that it did break and wanting to prove it.

Are you honestly telling me your experts are some mopes posting some youtubes on ezteamz and you are asking for someone to go dig that up?

Now that I have a name of our ezteamz experts and their obvious professional stuff.. I found some stuff including this

Thats a rise ball. Is there anyone on earth who thinks the pitch is any different than that? That is exactly what the pitch does. Anyone presenting anything other than that?

Does you DD have a rise ball that does that better than Cat (toe dragging or not)?

Speak now or forever hold your peace and lets see it. I want to see the premise they are debating.. this alledged Hop.

I am not telling anyone to lookup anything. The only one I wanted it proven or disproven to was me. What anyone else wants to believe is up to them.

The math we are talking about has to do with proving the ball spun by a human doesnt have enough spins to dig up - i.e. it cant fight air and gravity, it had nothing to do with non-rise movement balls, all they have to fight is air and they win that battle. I watch and defend myself against those every day of every week.

Wade, 6 years ago, my kid is 9, we are in a tournament and we both hear someone say, "Watch out for that kid's riser - its nasty." After the game, in the car, she asks me if I heard that - and what are they talking about. I told her I had no idea - at that time she throw a fast ball low inside, fast ball low outside, fast ball high inside, and a changeup, the basic 2 pitches that most beginners had. We asked her pitching coach - he tells us that yes, a rise ball breaks up, and even better, the best rise balls, breaks up twice. We just looked at each other and went out. We blew it off and a while later we read something about that little rise ball pitcher from "our town". She asked 'do you think they are talking about high-inside'? And our catcher got into as well, in fact after a game, she argued with some people on another team that were telling her K's rise ball was killing them. She laughed and said ' she doesnt have a rise ball, its...' I said - hush - and took her off to the side. I said 'let them worry about it'. I started watching rise ball pitchers and started filming them as well, I could never see anything breaking up, plenty breaking inside, outside, down, but not up. I watch some guys throwing rise balls, and I was positive that it was breaking up, but I didnt film it.

So anyway, an already long story short, she and I re-defined it as an optical delusion. Doesnt matter what it really does, what matters is what the batter thinks it does. And PT Barnum was right.

Parents right on this board state their 12U's have 6 pitches, etc. They dont have movement at all, let alone 6 pitches. They have different locations.

But to be clear, even If I did say I watched a softball float up and do the hokey pokey, so far not a single reputable study has been presented to refute it. A alleged exdaddy ball coach filming his d1 dd on ezteamz and a study of baseballs curving is not evidence. So hopefully some people stop pretending like there are all these computer generated studies of the rise ball. You guys were pretending like you had this stuff locked with rock solid evidence and we were some believers in mysticism.

Hey, I think I found the Sarah stuff. This is hardly ball busting science one way or the other; nonetheless, it doesnt appear to support your positions...

Computer generated models.. indeed.

Anyone who tries to say that a rise ball actually curves upward has no clue what they are seeing, in my ever so humble opinion. Yes, it may appear that to the naked eye, but just because it hits the mitt higher than the release point doesn't mean a thing. Heck, a high changeup (or any other pitch) does that. Now, if someone can show a video of a pitch that is release on a path exactly parallel to the ground, but then moves upward as it nears the plate, then I will admit my ignorance, but I don't expect to see that anytime soon.

However, I firmly agree that a good rise ball doesn't drop as much, or "curve downward" as much as other pitches. It may even almost level out as the spin takes effect, but by my meager understanding of physics, it doesn't curve upwards. Does that make it a killer pitch? Heck yes, I've watched Angela Tincher beat some pretty good teams over the last few years with the majority of her pitches being a rise ball, even though everyone knew it was coming more often than not.

For the record, my DD can't pitch a rise ball to save her behind. We've started trying to work on it this winter, but it usually hits the ceiling of the cage.....which, I guess, by some people's definition, makes it a killer rise ball :D

She does have a fast ball, a drop ball (that looks to me to drop more than a fast ball, but maybe my eyes are getting bad), and a couple different changeups. I'm pretty sure her curve ball breaks occasionally, but the screw ball still needs work. Oh well, even if she only has 2 or 3 solid pitches, she's doing better than her dad did when he played. I only had one pitch, and it was a changeup :D

BTW, now I know why I quit umping. I thought it was because my kids got old enough to start sports, but it looks like that wasn't the reason after all.
Proud fastpitch, baseball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. Dad :)

Thats not the pitch called "rise ball."

I think you are talking about some bugs bunny pitch that loops de loop.

EDIT!

Wait, I found it for you.

Watch the intro, the "riseball" and you describe it.
