High School Season

by fastpitch fool » Thu Jan 22, 2009 8:27 pm

Sorry. LC is Lake Central in St. John, Indiana.

As far as the power struggle goes, it has nothing to do with the player's parents. It is an internal struggle between the AD and the principal. Neither has a kid on the team. I think the player's parents would be happy with the ex-assistant being named the varsity coach. He also has coached ASA travel softball, and knows the game.

I feel sorry for the kids at Lake Central. They are a high school softball program that is always mentioned as a top rate program and here it is little more that 30 days till the start of practice and a coach hasn't been named yet.

Shame on the AD and the Principal for not having it done sooner and maybe it is time for the taxpayers to put a little pressure on them to get it done and do what is in the best interest of the kids and not what one of them wants. Hire the person that is the most qualified that has experience and has the best interest of the kids in mind.

High School Politics Suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's so many struggles with LC. School is pushing for referendum for us taxpayers to "renovate" the existing HS at the tune of about $93 million. Parents want two separate high schools and can't figure out how other communities have more than one and it's not possible for us. (FYI folks we have over 3,000 kids at one HS - three towns go to one HS). So you can imagine how hard it is to be on any sports team/extra-curricular. And a lot of teams around us at least for softball have a Fresh team, a JV and Varsity. We only have JV/Varsity. Kids can't even be a part of their own school teams.

Anyway, I don't know much about the assistant guy - other than at their camps dd goes to every March he advocated "squishing the bug" DD's short-term goal is to play for LC (long-term college) - hope she makes it next year - working hard!

If you start a freshman team, you will have no one to play. There are no freshman teams in our area. Most schools have trouble fielding a decent JV team. Some schools have trouble fielding a decent varsity team. LC is the exception. They have to cut good ball players.

I'm all for a second school. I would love to see the talent watered down. I think the taxpayers will take the lowest priced option - no second HS.

Whatever, I didn't say it was an existing assistant softball coach. It is a FORMER assistant softball coach that used to coach a very good ASA travel softball team.

3,000! We have two county schools, each with about 1800 students, and they are so crowded that the school corp has been talking about building a third HS.

This is so true in our region. Larger HS's have enough girls come to tryouts to field a frosh team, but the smaller outlying HS's don't. Our HS did have a frosh VB team, but there were still smaller HS's that couldn't even do that.

Brownsburg has one of the strongest Freshman group of girls in the area, it has players form the Dreams, Shockwaves, Xcel, and a total of 12 travel players in Freshman group, and they will need it because, the confernce is maybe the best in the State.

And that would be the Hoosier Crossroads Conference where my DD's team, McCutcheon, is a member. Like I said, no freshman team there. DD's early indication is that she is going to be rostered on both varsity and JV. Pinch runner on varsity and play JV.
