High School Season

by BigDaddy77 » Wed Feb 11, 2009 2:35 pm

My daughter is a freshman in Brownsburg and there are indeed a lot of great players coming to this team. It is a total shame the head coach is a cluless wonder. She makes zero situational adjustements on defense. She even keeps the book while standing at 3rd.

I know schools are going to a "C" team. Meaning they can use upperclassman and Freshman on the same team. This is for both sets of players that wouldn't otherwise get any playing time or possibly cut. I know Carmel, Noblesville, Fishers and a couple of other schools have gone to this. Just another way for all the girls to get a chance to play. Coolstuff - be advised that there is 35 game limit you can play in a season. We ran into that trouble last year. Girls started out playing JV and V, and they started eating up the their alloted games fast.

Glad to hear about the talent in Brownsburg. We played a lot of tournament games at the diamonds across from the high school over the years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but about 4 years ago, wasn't the rec program in Brownsburg mostly slow pitch. Not only is your conference tough, the sectional features some talented teams.

Does Brownsburg have any pitching? I know they have good talent coming in, but pitching? Lebanon has a very good freshman class coming in! Luthern has some good freshman and a new pitcher to help Lewis! Franklin Central has a strong freshman class also! But lost some to Luthern and a couple other privates!

There's an idea for my friends from Brownsburg.

Ritter is not too far and Doug is a great guy and a good coach and he doesn't keep a scorebook in the 3rd base box and actually teaches his kids to play situational defense.

C'mon June you can't get here soon enough.

No offense intended, Bucketboy, but it sure seems to me that the steady migration of travel talent to the privates is making the High School state tournament less legit every year. Isn't that what the travel season is for, assembling the best talent you can gather without boundaries for a run at the big tournament?

Brownsburg has no dominant pitcher, but a couple pretty good girls.

I'm with you bucketboy, I just want this HS crap to be over and June to get here so the season can really start.

Ritter plays in state tournaments. Their football team won the state championship this year, so I'm assuming the same is for all sports. In fact I was there and watched the game in Lucas Oil Stadium.

No offense taken, but let's look at in this light. The 4A State Title is usually won by a large public school that has a roster full of travel players and a dominate pitcher ie HSE(Melloh) McCutcheon(Collins) and last year's runner up Frankin Central(Bell).

3A is either the public school like New Pal that have again a roster full of travel players and a coach that coaches the high school team as such for the most part or in 07 you had Andrean a private, but again a team full of travel kids and dominate pitching and if Roncalli had dominate pitching they would be right there as well.

1A and 2A are usually full of the private schools or the real small schools that have some ball players and a dominate pitcher. Scecina, Lutheran or the Whiting's (Mel) or Tecemseh's (Sanders) so whether you are a public or a private it usually takes a dominate pitcher to get to the final 4 regardless of public or private.

Why are folks sending their kids to private schools?

Could it be that maybe the private school can provide a better education than the public in their particular district. Don't get me wrong their are some publics out there that do a great job and each case is different, but don't think for a minute I spend $7600 a year to send my kid to a private school just for her to play softball in a quality program which now has a new coach with no coaching experience, but at least has played 4 years of D1 ball and I am sure won't keep a scorebook while trying to coach 3rd base so we will see where that all goes. I will share this with y'all though. When she left the public school system she was a B/C student with an occasiional A and in the private school has been on the honor roll every grading period and was recently accepted into the National Honor Society ao in my opinon every dime spent was worth it regardless whether her high school softball team was any good or not, but it has been an added bonus for sure.

I can appreciate what you are saying though as I agree with you that sometimes it looks like a private school is building a softball empire when in realitiy each kid's reason for maybe leaving the public school for the private is a little different.

Have a great afternoon and is it June yet????
