I think throwing/defensive deception is a part of the game, especially with runners on 3B & 2B (and sometimes 1B) with less then 2 outs. But to involve the parents is bush no matter how many outs. The game is played between the lines by the girls or its BS. Coaching a planned defensive throwing play or planned drop is meastro.

How do you know the crowd wasn't duped as well? I'm just asking because even though DD's team does some pretty basic "trick" plays, we parents sometimes get fooled too. Can't tell you how many times our crowd of parents have yelled at one of our 3B to not throw to first when the runner from 3rd is right behind her, just too see a fake throw get the out. Although now we are finally getting used to it and believe our girls won't make stupid mistakes, well sometimes

Say this run by a 12U team out of West, TX.

runners on 2nd and 3rd
1st pitch to batter
girl on 3rd steps off of bag about 2 steps toward home
girl on 2nd runs toward third and stops 3 feet from third base, all the time the coach on 3rd is yelling go back to 2nd
girl turns and runs to 2nd catcher throws to 2nd
girl on 3rd runs home and draws throw from 2nd to home
run scores and runner is at 2nd or 3rd depending on throw
saw this done 3 times in one weeekend

I saw that play during a college game and F6 got beside R2 while she was near third base and F2 fired the ball to F6 who tagged R2 for the out. R1 took off for home on F2's throw to F6 and R1 was gunned down at the plate.

IMU that you are not violating the LBR by returning towards first but then head to second base when you overrun (not round) 1B and are coming back but have not yet touched 1B. I've been told about this opportunity for mayhem by two different college coaches at clinics in the last year as their favorite play.

I had the play run on me and didn't realize it. In a one ump game the player waited so long to return that the ump had called time and started cleaning off the plate, and the pitcher was sitting on the rubber waiting for him when the player went to second. The umpire refused to call her out based on the LBR. I asked how she could advance if he had called time and he admitted that he shouldn't have called time and that it was a live play and he wasn't inclined to rule against the runner for his mistake.

ASA Rule 8 Section 7 T 3 a-e.

Given it's so deep it makes me wonder if that's an add on put in place to deal with people who exploited that loophole in the past. Any umpires who know the history of the rule I'd be intrigued to hear it.

Also makes me wonder if the NCAA and NFHS have it covered that specifically. I don't have access to those rule sets.
