12U Predictions for the Bomber tourney

4LoveoftheGame wrote:I guess part of the Bomber's problem is that they cannot read....we are NOT participating in the tournament just for the reasons stated. With no slight intended to the participating teams, if Scott Smith or the Bomber organization think that ALL of those teams that signed up are the BEST teams in the state....or even the top 20....all I can say is nice rose colored glasses.

I guess that is also why his team was a registered 2nd year ASA 'A' team then went and played in USFA's World Series in the 'B' division. Oh....excuse me....after all who is the USFA State Director that makes those decisions? Oh yeah....Scott Smith!

Well, actually, in USFA you can go "B" just by saying "please"? Although I thought Bobby hair was the area director :?:
While I agree that this does not necesarily (sorry, it's late and I can't spell) the "top 20" teams of the state in each age division, I still think it's a pretty good tournament with lots of good competition and lots of teams. It's much better than playing the same old tired teams in your own city weekend after weekend. Bashing Scott Smith doesn't seem to be productive in anyway. I have never met the guy but I would imagine that this size of tournament can be a headache for anyone hosting so I say good for him. But what do I know? I'm just stalking this thread because the 14u thread died a quick death and y'all are a lot more fun to laugh at.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

My bad...got called out on that one....I meant the 95 Texas Bombers.

To set the record straight. Oh, and I suppose that they are not part of the Bombers organization either? And you are not the USFA State Director?

And I guess that changes all of the facts previously listed about the tournament?....mmmm...funny on how Scott seems to minimize the big stuff about the tournament and explode the small stuff.

This is fun! Let's go again. What else do you have?.....hehehehehe

bomberscoach you need to take a deep breath. A TD for a large tourney should be far more professional than the snide, sarcastic, bravado responses on this board today. While we all know TD's are hard working and underappreciated, thank goodness they are all not as self righteous as you. Your condecending attack on the original poster was unnecessary and you could have diffused this entire situation with a calm, even apologetic tone for any misunderstanding. And with friends like Slapper defending you, you don't need enemies. Quite frankly, my team looked into this tourney and thoroughly researched your tourny location info in your VTD post. Whether the location was poorly communicated or a bait and switch I do not know, but we too believed the tourney was at HUBER.

Bottomline, you are missing the point. You are not dealing with a bunch of prima donna teams who won't play on certain fields, and don't appreciate hard work, wah, wah , wah. Quit blaming everyone else for your issues ,look in the mirror, and get the chip off your shoulder. Your posts only give the critics of this tourney more credibility.

You are doing no one any favors by adding teams and overcrowding a tourney and having to scrape the bottom of the barrel for umps/locations. This tourney has some soap opera every year, people have come to expect problems. Your handling of this post is the reason this has escalated instead of going away. Surely doesn't bode well for how you as a TD will handle issues at your tourney.

On the road again...you have avery valid point! We deeply apologize for any misunderstanding.....and will do our best to accommodate any team that is negatively affected in any way! I do not post on here very often for the exact reason of getting into discussions with fake people with screen names bashing anything or anyone trying to do good things for our game of softball. It is our effort to make sure that all attendees enjoy a tournament with field of great teams from all over!

That fact that I let this person drag me along in this for this long..is silly in it's self! As with any other game I lose....I say good game and move on to play again!

Take Care and have a great season!

Somehow, my feeling is that bombercoach will be able to work things out, bees or no bees. We have attended this tournament every year we were eligible - we have played at Comal (maybe the other field was Landa) , Huber, and Bomber fields. My favorite because of old times are the bomber fields, but I remember deer running through the outfield at comal. I have pictures of my youngest playing there as a 9 year old, and we took the same pictures with her and one of her buds over against the fence over looking the river. She has now aged out of this one and I am going to miss it. I recommend this one - I love this one. And yes, Scott and I are friends. But we battled each other on the field for many years as well.

We have had great experiences and great memories there at this one, some we did well, some we didnt. When I think of the great fun of travel ball, the memory that comes first is driving through the gates there at bomber field in new braunfels and see all the teams, the team tents, the vendors, the tournament guys buzzing around in their golf carts, parents out digging in the brush looking for home run balls.

We have finished this one at 10:30 sunday night, we have finished this one with icicles on the trees, we have played it with kids battling heat to the point of nuts. And if you have the chance, dont miss it. They try their best and some things arent perfect, mistakes are made,
but I really wish I had another daughter young enough to still play in this one, I really do.

Donnie s - nice post. I am glad bomberscoach has a good friend and you have good memories of this tourney.

However, while a little more apologetic ,bomberscoach is still missing the point and blaming others for his issues. Posters have legit issues which have been mainly dealt with by telling people to take their ball and go home if they don't like the way he's doing things. Not an effective problem solving method. Tends to create frustration and dissatisfied customers.

I know teams who committed to this tourney because of promised change in format/team numbers. They and their parents are concerned by the changes and hoping they have not made a mistake, but they are not pulling out because they have made a commitment not only to bomberscoach but to other teams. They think their word should mean something. Changing the tourney from what was originally promised may have been well intentioned, but you lose credibility by going back on your guarantees. You had an opportunity to make this tourney into something really good and different this year, but unless you pull off a tremendous surprise, don't expect many to believe you when you come back next year with new promises. It is called credibility. Good luck.

Great post Donnie. I know we have made the trip the past 3 years and too feel as you do. Just pulling into the gates at Camp Comal is something special. Its not the nicest complex but then again we played at some pretty bad fields at the Ronald McDonald and thats a pretty special tournament also. Playing softball is in many ways the same as life it self. You get out of it what you put into it. If you assume everything is going to be bad before you get there it will be. Also your negative attitude will most likely affect your daughter. I know parents who gripe and make excuses all the time and so do their kids. If your kids can learn to win no matter what the fields are like or if the ump is not so perfect they will be better prepared for the future.

It only March and this is the first of many big tournaments with lots of good teams. I am looking forward to it.

well i was not going to post anymore to this thread, but the theme that anyone who has any complaints or issues about this tourney is just another whiny softball parent making excuses ahead of time is ABSURD. You need to be concerned when you stop getting feedback. Most of the posts I have seen regard legit issues and have not been about "it is going to cost me a game". If you want to run a good tourney you do not hide your head in the sand when issues arise and issues WILL occur. The only way to improve a tourney is from feedback, both positive and negative. Why people seem to be so thin skinned about this tourney and resort to calling people names and assuming they are bad parents if voice a complaint is beyond me.
