Plus the cost of gas, hotels, etc. Wait! Wrong post! Anyway, the carpet at the Sportzone has been that way for years. I keep saying, go to Fort Wayne and play at the Dome. Much closer to regulation playing area and the turf is excellent. Of course it is NSA, not ASA. If I ever win PowerBall I will look into building one in/near South Bend.

There has been a small dome facility in Lafayette for many years, but it has catered mostly to baseball until this year. There have been softball tournaments there regularly this winter, but they are NAFA. So if you want to beat up on lesser competition, take a home a trophy, and feel good about yourself, that's the place to go.

If it's the place I'm thinking of, doesn't it have a ridiculously short right field? And the turf isn't much better than the Sportzone.

And the competition at the Dome (while not always) tends to be better than average. Look at the 12U thread I started and see the list of teams that will be at the Dome March 13-15. Best teams in Indiana and some pretty good ones from outside.

Coolstuff, sorry to hear about your daughter. I've noted in earlier posts our team only played one tournament this winter at the Sportzone. We advised our girls this tournament was to get some cuts in off live pitching and for our pitchers to get some work. We further informed our team, if we did fine, great, if not, no big deal, bottom line no injuries. Girls were instructed to not slide and take the out standing up. Worked out okay for us, decent tournament and NO injuries. With the number of teams showing up for these winter tournaments, you would think the Sportzone would take more of an interest in the condition of their playing surface. Congrats to the Chix on another good tournament.

Personally, I have never been inside the facility in Lafayette (actually, it's outside of West Lafayette, in the Klondike area). I think it's called the Family Sports Center now (used to be called Arnett Sports Center). It looks small from the outside, that's for sure. The Dome and Sportszone have the best competition, by far. I saw a list of teams were playing at a recent tournament at the Sports Center and I had not heard of a single one of them except for the Indiana Magic.
