Okay ... My first game and I did the bases ... Drew a really good partner for my first game ... in the NE our mechanics clinics were snowed out, so I was a little nervous ... but the visiting team was late arriving and we went over the positions and some basics ... had 2 close calls to make, got a little heat for the one at 3rd but my partner said it was a good call ( if I was asked I would have gone to him, I wasn't asked ... but he said he saw nothing to over rule me- had the BR safe initially but F5 held the tag on her and BR lifted her foot ) ... the other one was a very close play at first but I sold it and didn't here a peep ... tomorrow we work together and I've got the dish ... :o

Hey, you learned the first rule.

If youre gonna get yelled at, get yelled at for an out!

Dont forget.. you have a 4-piece puzzle:
Base Ball Offense Defense.

If you have all four elements and you see the play, you do not go for help.

So, you saw the runner lift her foot while a tag is being applied and you called the out.

So ask yourself: What did I miss on that play?

First off, if you didnt see that then you dont call that. EVER. YOu dont make an out call like that unless you saw it.

So this play would not be an appropriate play to go for help on.

You saw the out and you called the out.

Whats to help on?

Keep it up!

On the play at 3rd ... The Coaches argument was that the BR was pushed ... I did NOT see the push ... called it like I saw it ... I was at a 45 angle to the play ... but, if the coach had asked me to go for help, I supposed there was chance my partner could have seen a push that I did not ... which again, he said he did not see and said it was a good call ... Given that possiblity though, I was looking at it like a pulled foot ... where you believe you have everything in front of you, make the out call, and the Coach argues 'she pulled her foot, will you ask for help' ? Yes or no ?

You cant put that call on a partner. You make that call you are eating it and its on you. A partner telling you "I saw nothing to overturn it" is teaching you that. It was a good answer. What did I see that was worth overturning the call? If I saw nothing which would grossly supersede your call, youre eating that one.. and then after the game me and you would be having a chat about when you go for help.

When you make a call where you saw something that no one else on earth saw, thats a tough call that you get paid to make. So make it and deal with it.

Pulled foot request from an other wise reasonable coach is a limited discussion item. That is all I'm asking my partner and that is IF there is a possibility of that. I dont consider pushing the same as pulling a foot because thats about angles, not what I saw. Sometimes your partners angle on the pulled foot is better. A push from a player is all on you. You can see that.

And FYI, there are very few "yes or no" answers from me about umpiring..

I didn't think I would get a yes or no  ... Just making sure I will get it right ... I was on top of the play and did not see a push, either did my partner ... might have just been an attempt by a Coach to see what he could get away with since I'm a newb ... he wasn't out of line and didn't get in my face, so it was all good ... thanks Wade
