Is there a tourny in Vegas that is made up of individuals signing up and then being placed on a team.
If so, is this a good exposure ?

It only takes one coach at a showcase event to make it worth while. You just never know when that will be or sometimes who the coach may be.
The Event is called the Southern Star All-Star - Western Event and is being run through Ted and the Henderson, NV sports complex. The web site for more information is http://www.southernstarsoftball.com . I am not sure Sally with NV ASA would be completely aware of all the details or not as of yet. This is the same complex where UNLV holds their college tournaments. The coaches at UNLV are aware of the event and you may want to call and ask Coach Liveri about it and see what they think about it. This is on the final weekend of the summer evaluation period for NCAA college coaches and we expect a good turn out. All the events in LV now are team events except for this one.
According to what we have been told, there was an event there a few years ago that was well attended and this is not the same one. It has not been back for a couple of years, so that is why this one is coming in. The same people that run the Southern Star event in the Southeast for the past several years have been recommended for reviving one in Las Vegas for this August and have this one set up. The format and design of this event was set up by 6 college coaches and implemented in a format that they wanted and recommended. There is a process to gain the attention of the college coaches and the people with the Southern Star guide you through it. The players are easily identifyable and there is plenty of information provided to the college coaches. All of this makes their time more efficient and worthwhile. I suggest you contact any of the colleges on the list from the web site that have attended an event in the past and ask them.
It gives individuals an opportunity to promote themselves and make sure they are seen in a college showcase atmosphere. There are only 11 girls on each team, 2 pitchers, 2 catchers and 7 position players. Pitchers and catchers rotate, every other position plays the entire game, every game. Each game is 75 minutes long and each team plays 4 games. You know when you play and what position you play and so do the college coaches. There is no hit and miss here! No chance of a college coach coming to see you play and this be the game you sit out or not play the whole game. This is about you!
Whether it is worth it or not depends on what you put into it. You can not expect coaches to just find you. If you do, you may be sorely mistaken. This event has been very successful for a number of girls who have attended in the past 2 years. At the one at Georgia Southern Univ. in Statesboro, GA this past January, there were 11 2009 grads that attended and of the 11, all were signed after being seen in at the event by schools who came and watched them during the event. At the event in August 2008 in Atlanta, GA, of the 19 seniors that participated, 18 were seen and evaluated at the event by schools they later signed with. VERY HIGH SUCCESS RATE!
And it is for underclassmen too. This is an opportunity to get more exposure or start on your road for gaining college coaches attention. Many underclassmen are on college radar's now after being seen at Southern Star events.
As a person who just had a daughter sign, let me say that all exposure is good exposure and it is all what you put into it. And yes, the college, Univ. of GA, that my daughter signed with saw her at the August event, invited her for an official visit after seeing her play and later offered her and she signed. You never know when or where you will be seen. So I know these work, but are they 100% successful, no, nothing is, but I think it is worth the time and effort, or I would not promote them.
