I witnessed this and i'm not part of either teams, but ghetto rebels? this was over 1 corona angel parent that could not be controlled.

Actually I chose idiots over Ghetto Rebels. It doesn't have to (but could) refer to the fight (takes two to tango, right?), but it could also refer to the moms'/fans' jokes about the "white girls crying".
Ice cream?! When the f**k did we get ice cream?!

Folks, There have been a few comments about a lack of tournament representation at the HB complex on Sunday. Gary and I were at the fields the entire day, with the exception of a few errands that had to be run. I relieved Gary at 1pm and continued to drive my golf cart from one end of the complex to another making sure everything was running smoothly.

When the game between the Angels and Rebels concluded the umpires came to me and said that the parents on both sides of the stands were out of control, but especially the parent from the Angels. I drove onto the field and asked the Angel coaches if everything had died down and they said yes. They seemed pretty embarrassed that a parent from their side was behaving in this manner. I witnessed no hostility from the Angel coaches themselves, in fact just the opposite, they seemed very dissappointed with the parent in question.

I filled the rack up with a new supply of balls and hung around for a few minutes. Everything seemed to be fine. I then drove up to the upper fields where the 14U's were playing. They were over an hour behind and I wanted to make sure we didnt get any further behind. About 20 minutes later my field maintenance guy said that there was a fight on the lower fields and quite frankly I didnt believe it because I thought that everyones tempers had subsided. Obviously not....when I got back to the lower fields the Angel parent had already left the park, and everyone was pretty much spread out over the entire park again talking about the brawl.

I am sorry that I wasnt there to actually witness this unfortunate event. But I am not sure what I could have done to stop it anyway. From the sound of things, this parent seemed pretty set on escalating this issue he had with the Rebels.

But I wanted to clarify that Gary was in attendance from 6:30am to 1pm and I was in attendance from 1pm till 10pm. With the exception of leaving the fields for about an hour to pick up the trophies. Gary Haning also traveled to all the satelite fields on Saturday numerous times to make sure things were going as smoothly as possible. I was running the NIKE and coaching in the NIKE Faster to First High School Tournament on Saturday at the Sport Complex.
We do the best that we can, but obviously cant be in all places at the same time.

Surf City Tourneys would like to apologize for the unfortunate behaviour of these two teams.
As you know, we specialize in Showcase events for 18Gold. We have always held this tournament for the younger age groups so that they can also get the opportunity to play at the HB Sports Complex and we hope to continue that tradition in the future.

Hello Heybucket

This is my first post and I would like too comment on what happen at the softball tournament yesterday. Yesterday it was a good game between The CA Rebels and Corona Angels, midway through the game the Angels were up by one run 6 to 5. Coach Amie called a time out to let the Umpire know that the Angels coach Kenny was being rude by talking to her and her players in the dugout. (I think this is when things got out of hand) At the same time the parent who later on got into the argument with Amie's boyfriend after the game was yelling Amie's name like he was a crazy drunk person when she was talking too the Umpire during the game. (He was sitting right next to their score keeper) To me this was very disrespectful he had nothing too do with either coach and i think he was out of line period point blank.

To make a long story short the CA Rebels rallied back and won the ball game. After the game was over Amie's boyfriend and a couple of other parents started yelling her name to let the parent from the Angels know how disrespectful he was during the game. That's when the parent from the Angels got up and started doing the pelvic thrust gesture and started saying Amie s*&k , F this F that and making comments about her team! So Amie's boyfriend blows up and now we have them going back and forth yelling.

Everything settle down Rebels went their way Angels when their way. All of a sudden the Angels parent started running from about 90 yards almost from the parking lot toward Amie's boyfriend. (This was a big mistake) The Angels parent knock down two women from the Rebels team and then him and Amie's boyfriend get into it. One of the husband who wife got knock down ran to her defense, tackle the parent to calm him down because the women only tried to stop him from coming toward Amie's boyfriend. This is what happen period, and in my opinion he deserved everything he got yesterday. I'm sorry the 12 year old girls had to witness their parents act this way, but that guy was out of line!! I think both teams parents and coach's need to meet and resolve the issue peacefully.

WOW.....I didn't know how competitive softball was until yesterday :o

I hear what you are saying but you are acting like your team had no fault here.....Don't taunt the other team....That didn't help things.....You guys were both way out of line and both parties are to blame not just one team.......DON'T BLAME.....FIX!

I saw the golf carts driving around all weekend. No one should have to police 12 and 14 U games.
Parents let your kids play the game and have fun and quit ruining it for them. Parents need to stayed positive and quit crying about playing time and where their kid hits and where they play.
If the parents stay positive the kids stay positive and the team gets better, bottom line.

The tourney was great and a few idiots should not ruin it for everyone else.
I vote ZERO tolerance on these issues.

ASA may need to give a class on class:)

OK..Some guy grabs his crotch, yells _uck this coach, flips off the crowd..the boyfriend reacts to this guy talking to the female coach in front of her daughter that way..all the girls on our side heard the guy say multiple lewd things....He later runs into a group of people swinging, and somehow the Rebels are idiots and classless. There are, in fact, a lot of friends and family on both sides. Whomever said this guy was just walking up trying to talk is on some kind of crack...or hallucinogens of some type. Even his own people said he was running towards us on our side and that he was crazy....Some people say he was drunk (Which if he was he should have never been allowed to drive off with his daughter in the car). He ran for a long, long way.. We were shocked and headed towards him with arms out yelling Stop Stop..There are kids around! but he didn't stop. He came into the crowd.
What would you do if you looked up and some guy hits your wife in the face and knocks her down? Stand there and say please stop. That's not ghetto in my book..That's defending your own. Not too many men are going to stand and let their wives/girlfriends get hit, knocked down, insulted in front of their daughter, etc. and not react.
It was totally wrong. In my 28 years of organized softball, I have never seen anything like it. But I was standing right there in the middle of it all and was one of the people trying to stop this guy. I don't see how it could have been avoided once the parent ran (RAN) into the crowd 60 yards away.

I saw Gary a few times and can vouch that he was there all day.....I think it was just unfortunate that you guys didn't have more help because like you said....What would you have done anyways all by yourself???? Same thing everyone else did....Watch! So many teams and you and Gary all by yourself.....YIKES!

The tournament was great and as usual...Surf City attracted the best teams from all over California......I personally liked the game times, etc......But, I know I am lucky with our schedule

Coach Kenny wasn't talking to Aimee or the dugout, he was telling his batters something to which Aimee took offense to and she addressed him first, then he responded, then Aimee complained to the umpire.

The parent who started yelling Aimees name I can only surmise was in response to all the Rebel parents screaming their REBELS chant when they rallied in the 2nd inning - I assume it was to show the same respect to the coach that trying to confuse and intimidate with the team chant is meant to do to the opposite team. No other Angels parents were out of control, they were trying to difuse the situation between the two parents. Aimee's boyfriend did approach the Angels side of the stands first when the parent started yelling "sucks" after Rebels parents were screaming/chanting AIMEE after the game and yelling back "Sucks What?" and then it got really ugly.

Bad behavior on both people and no excuse at all for this unfortunate occurance at ANY type of sports event, let alone 12U girls softball.

I read somewhere on this post that the Rebels parents were taunting the Angel parent long after it had ended???? Is that not true???? If it is, that is YOUR responsibility right there and nobody elses.....

As far as her boyfriend's reaction, I don't think anyone can blame him for protecting his wife of course......But my point is, would that have ever happened if the taunting had never occurred???? Maybe?
