High School Season

by coolstuff » Tue Mar 10, 2009 8:27 am

Now that the HS season has OFFICIALLY started in Indiana, are there any reports or insight on how tryouts are going?

About 20 freshmen showed up at tryouts. It's evident who the travel ball girls are vs. the rec ball girls. This HS does not have a freshmen team, so it's going to be interesting.

Good news!! DD made the HS softball team! Not that I was overly concerned about it, but I was nervous about it since the HS doesn't have a freshman team, twenty freshmen showed up at tryouts, and I didn't want to assume I already knew who all the freshman travel ball players are. Turns out I DO know who all the freshman travel players are, and they all made the team. I don't care if she rosters on the JV or Varsity - she's in. :D

12-2 over HSE I saw in the paper and I agree a team to beat.

Who pitched for HSE in the Carmel game?

Osborne for Carmel
Ragor then Conger

Doesnt HSE have 3 Dreams Gold player, 2 Majic Gold Players, and 1 Shockwaves Gold player?

Very surprised by the score..just reading into, looks like HSE had a few errors.

Just shows that people in Indiana don't get what gold is for! This State may have enough girls for 1 gold team! But the PARENTS think they need to play D1 and travel the country spending the same $$ they could use for college!! Most of the girls on these "gold" teams are signed or will sign with small D1 or D2 teams in THIS state! Why spend the $$, other than ego's of the parents!! They want it more than the girls!! Nothing wrong with a D3 or NAIA school if they want to give the $$!! I know D# has no $$, but alot of "other" ways of taking care of the girls!

I've read this is a problem in other states as well....on a competitive-level, most of the gold teams are just a good 18u team. Does anyone have or know where to find a complete list of all the seniors in the state of Indiana who have signed to play college ball including h.s. and travel teams..?

I would say that Michigan State, Michigan, Kentucky, Louisville, Tulsa, Mississippis state, Georgia, Fresno State, Purdue, IU, Notre Dame, and Tennessee are fairly significant schools that all have/had Indiana state players or players that played on Indiana Gold teams. This does not include, Dayton, Ohio, Tennessee Martin, Southern Illinois, Butler, Western Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Indiana State, Morehead State, Miami of Ohio, Eastern Michigan, Ball State, and Brown University were other players have gone.

Indiana has some good players, and yes, based on last years 16u nationals, can compete with most. More to it than just saying they all stay in Indiana. If school was full funded and all players got full rides, you would probably see more kids go out of state.

Well said Stratos and there are many other schools that you didn't list that have or will have Indiana kids on their rosters in the years ahead as well.

GEt in the right events regardless of gold, 18u, or 16u and the chance of a kid getting recruited will increase greatly.
