Top 3 in Tomball? How will the 96 teams do?

by play-more/talk-less » Thu Apr 16, 2009 11:51 am

Most of the tough 2nd yr 14u teams will be playing mostly 16/18u tournaments until it's time to play qualifiers. There will however still be some tournaments that will be just as good in the 14u division so we'll still see them from time to time. I know our plan is to either play up an age level or find a tournament that looks like a tough group of teams. Should be a good spring.

You mean like the tough one you guys played in Splendora this past weekend against all 95' teams most of whom were very bad. I bet the championship game was a real nail biter that team could catch and throw and everything!

It wasn't the toughest competition out there, so what? Maybe they were just looking for a RR to play and work on some things. The Jets have never run from the competition and have played the best and held their own so I don't quite know the reason for your lame post. Besides, didn't your team play in this tournament?

WE had to play somewhere, or should we sit back and do nothing until HS season is over? I assume you were out there, care to let us know which team? We'll be hosting some round robins in the near future, I can see about getting your team on the list. Our coaches try to find tournaments with solid teams to play against, that weekend there just weren't any in the area when we signed up to play in Splendora. Competition there was what is was, not good enough to compete with our girls. We certainly didn't come away bragging about it. Overall is was good batting practice and pitching practice for our players. If we could set up our schedule to play teams like the Peppers, Magic and Hawks every weekend, we would. It just doesn't happen that way. Good luck to your team, whichever it might be 8-)

Lefty, what 14u teams would make up your perfect tourn or round robin?

To answer your question yes we were there and I enjoyed playing against your team. You can play where ever you want to my only problem is and the reason I posted is you get on here and somebody posts about the three big dog 14u teams playing up in 16/18u and you post a look at me look at me reply my team is tops too and we are going to play up also unless a good 14u tourney comes along. This is posted three days after you played a bs tourney in bfe.Play where you want and I would enjoy playing against you guys many more times but we will not be at any 16/18u tourneys. BTW there were plenty of good RR tourneys last weekend Velocity,Power,Chillibirds,Spring Klein Impact and other good teams were at one in particular maybe they were full by the time your coach called IDK. I'm not slamming your team by any means you guys are very solid the post just struck a nerve.

Hmm..Now that is a good question. Keep in mind I am no coach, just a parent but I do go to EVERY game my DD plays in. I can only go by what I have seen in the last couple of years and I am sure I will leave someone out but here goes, in no paticular order  people (already assuming DD's team is in it):

Peppers
Magic
High Voltage
Hawks
FW batbusters (montoya, apparently there are several)
TPS 95
Houston Power 95
Glory (might be more than one, no idea which one, sorry)

There are probably more but these are the stand outs from what I have seen so far this year and in recent seasons that I know will still be good this summer.

playmore talk/trash...think what you want..my post was not meant to be a "look at me" post. I honestly doubt DD's team will play at this park again but who knows. It certainly wasn't close for us either and the fields made for some very unreasonable in the park homeruns. The tournament you mentioned would have been nice, the problem was we already committed to playing in Splendora when the chilibirds (or power, not sure which) signed up late in the week (this per our coach) and rather than bail on Splendora we decided to stick it out. I do find it interesting that you call it a BS tourney in bfe when you were there. Did you think you guys were gonna take a big plastic trophy home and you're just upset that you went home empty handed? Sorry you lost, it's part of life and I'm sure your DD has already forgotten it so it'll be ok I promise.

I just think it was a cheap shot on your part, especially since your team was there playing in it too. Obviously, the Jets made a poor choice in playing in this RR, but it's not characteristic of this team to go around playing in weak tournaments. Just a bad choice that's all, so move on.

I will agree with this statement 100%. We were short two infield starters and we had no idea who these teams were so we thought maybe it would be okay. In hindsight, it was a mistake to play in this one but once we were committed to play, we did. I am sure we weren't the first team to make this mistake and we won't be the last but it will be the last time we make it. Live and Learn :D
