Weekend assesments: Wathced many games and saw most teams in this tournament play!

96 Diamonds: Any questions for those who had the questions going into this tournament. Many wonder why they have not placed in previous tournaments here it is, this team is very seasoned and gets up for the biggest of tourneys and plays to full potential when all is riding on it. Local tourneys mean nothing to them other than more games under their belts for practice. Absolute class from all of the coaches, players and parents. Congrats!

Peppers: You guys have a great team and all of TEXAS should be proud to have you guys represent us! Way to battle back with 7 in a row, shows the character of your team.

TX Red Hots: WOW! Team speed, confidence and the nutty Mohawk guy. By far head and shoulders above the rest of the 97 class. Congrats to all of you youung ladies. They will give anyone fits in any game on any day!

Bandits: Just was not their weekend. Will be there in mid summer battling for Normal and if they get on a roll in Normal could make some noise. They play the game all out til the final out, great kids and coaches.

96 TX Fusion: Opposite from Diamonds, do not show up for the big tourneys but can dominate the weak local tourneys. Will qualify but do not expect much from them at Nats.

96 Lady Longhorns: Tick Tick Tick boom, there it goes. WOW, parents letting kids quit in the middle of tourneys for whatever reason is such a selfish act and hurts 11-12 year olds is put on the parents that quit. 5 hours away from home and to pull that, CLASS! Hope they can pull it back together for the girls sake.

American Liberty Kruzers: Do not know what all the hype about this team was, OVER RATED!

Texas Force: Up and coming team in Texas, looks like they have a great foundation but also looks like they have not had the experience in the big tournaments like this one. Coaches look to have alot of knowledge of the game so look for them to get their team to where they need to be.

96 Texas Glory: Probably the most annoying coach I have ever heard on the softball field. AS far as the team not much of nothing to say. Long ways to go to compete week in and week out.

97 Texas Glory: Very disappointed to see where this team is to date. Have seen them in the past and this team has lost its luster. New head coach from what I hear. Maybe new philosophy with no results. Have taken a major step back.

Austins Finest 97, Texas Fury, Austins Finest 96, TX Bombers, Texas Ice, Young Legends, Texas Sting, Austin Storm, Kaos, Thunder, Elite Alice, all nice teams but not on the level of the big girls, not saying that all the above mentioned are the big girls but throughout this thread these are the teams mentioned as placing or being the next tier that could knock off some teams.

Good luck to all and hope this post does not offend any as that is not the M.O. just rying to give honest opinions!

For the last couple of months this whole TX board has been dominated by the likes of REALLY, SoftballG, smackdaddy, bleacher creature, frito burrito, houfastpitch and all the others. All tooting their horns about how good they are and how the HOF would determine who has bragging rights for the state because so many good teams would finally play in the same tournament to settle the score once and for all. Now, not a peep out of anybody and when you do post it is about how good yor houston teams did in not winning the thing. Where are you guys hiding. Looking at the bracket on the VTD it looks like there were some real shockers. Fusion 0-2 and only scoring 2 run the entire tournament. The Bandits kicking the Longhorns butt 11-0. A first year team finishing in the top 3 and the Diamonds giving up 2 runs the entire tournament. So what do you all have to say for yourself. Frito you promised everyone a response on Monday and i have been anxiously awaiting your comments. As for me, well we made the trip but got our hats handed to us in the 14Us but that was what i kind of expected anyway. I find it funny that after 2 days no one from the Diamonds has come on here to gloat or you dont find anyone talking about their performance but if a Houston team had walked away the gold the post would have been up to 20 pages by now.

Looking at the Bracket the Diamonds deserve their props although I think they had an easier road to the top 4 then most did. I however chose not to rub in the fact that Houston Dominated the field but because you wanted it here it is.if the debate is the best team in Texas Solely based on the HOF Q. congrats Diamonds (this however has not been the debate). If the debate is which region of the state is more dominate "which it has been" then there is no doubt that Houston is the dominating region. While 1 game gave 1 team braggin rights I count 5 of the top 8 teams as Houston Based with 2 from Centex and only 1 from southern Oklahoma albeit the winners. If you go out to top 15 you end up 8 houston, 3 Centex adn 4 S. OK. If you want my opinion which you did this is it; Houston spreads the talent out, we have more players at a higher level and thus have more great teams with slightly diluted talent pools. But even then any team from Dallas is going to end up battling it out against 3-4 equally matched Houston teams while the Diamonds won they in no way dominated in those wins. If you took the top 2-3 off of each of the Peppers, Fury, Bandits, Redhots, thunder Etc.. We'd have one dominate team and a bunch of mediocre teams I personally perfer the spread out talent and great competiton. Because in the end we are developing more players with more potential.

Thats the spirit. Now to address some of your comments

Houfastpitch it sounds like you are with the Fury and based on what i have read on this board it does sound like you have a great team and should hold your heads high about your performance last weekend. No shame in losing to the Diamonds in ITB. Just remember though Normal is not a tournament anyone can sign up for you must earn a berth but i am glad to see you are planning on going.

SoftballG are you familiar with the diamonds. Have you seen them before or were you just going on reputation. What were your thoughts on this team. I think one could argue that the diamonds were NOT getting a lot of love on this board prior to this weekend. Most people were going with Fusion or Longhorns.

B.C. that was funny. But to have closure and be able to move on with your life maybe you are the one that needs to admit YOU were dominated this weekend.

4Love i dont think I agree with all of your comments. I think Fusion is better than you give them credit for although they have not always performed well when the spotlight is the brightest. 96 Glory should no longer even be brought up on this board anymore. Force is a force. 97 Glory is better than you think they just came in 2nd at a 14U A the week before. Thunder and Fury should not be buried with the also-rans in your post.

My good friend REALLY you are so predictable with your responses. Here are some comments for you

"If the debate is the best team in Texas Solely based on the HOF Q." - wasn't that the consensus by everyone going into this weekend.

"While 1 game gave 1 team bragging rights" - correct me if i am wrong but i think it took more than 1 game to get to the championship

"while the Diamonds won they in no way dominated in those wins" - are you seriously going to stand behind those comments. Which team were you on. Based on the scores from the VTD and first-hand accounts i have received from friends playing 12U you might want to double check with the Riptide, Red Hots or Peppers. From what I was told those games were not real close and not because they are not good teams but because the Diamonds played so well. Yes, the Fury game was very close but i think all of their other wins came fairly easily.

"if you took the top 2-3 off of each team" - are you trying to imply this is what the Diamonds have done.

In closing a couple of final comments. I would love to hear from anyone associated with any second year 12U other than Riptide about their experiences at ASA Nationals. What did you think of the whole experience, what did you like least and best about the tournament, how does it compare to PCB.

How do you think these 3 teams will fare at OKC?

To close i would like to end with this famous quote from a legendary sports icon:

"If you aint first you are last" Ricky Bobby

Can someone please give us a good detailed scouting report on most of the better teams. We will be playing in the State tournament and would like to have an idea of what most of these teams are like.

Coaster: On the same page with you about 96 Glory can not begin to believe people had them as a sleeper team. As far as the 97 Glory we have played them several times in the past and they are not what they once were. Depend on the big hit to much and coaches do not adjust to the game real well, not always going to win with the big sticks, Example Diamonds. Do not be fooled by the local 14U A tourneys at best that was an average 12U A tournament. Your next question will be well what about the Diamonds in that tourney? See previous post, they get up for the big ones. Fusion, just stating pacts, locally they do great it seems but on the big stage they do not show! I do not see these teams on a regular basis just going off this past weekend and past weekends results!

Wow!!!!! Texas has a lot of good teams and the Diamonds are 1 of them!!!!!!!

Again, The Diamonds; are only 1 of them.

Congrats to all the teams for an outstanding job under such adverse conditions.Anticipating what rules would change, what time games would start, who would it be, are we finishing this game or going on to the next, and most of all playing at 4 am!!!!!!!!!!etc, etc
Several of these teams can beat any other team out there at any given time (including the Diamonds) There are some very talented teams competeing for just a few spots and I say lets go play again!!! See you on the dirt

Yes, ANYBODY can and will be beaten on any given day Denver. Yes, there are alot of good teams in Texas. I don't understand why soooo many posters on here can't just admit the Diamonds are good, and deserved their hard fought win(s). QOD seems to be the only poster that can admit that. Between REALLY and DENVER Dog, you'd think the Diamonds just seemed to get lucky at the HOF qualifier. Looked like they played hard to me, at least against our team. They won, you didn't. Get over it already.

Here is a tip for those whining about playing 2:00 or 4:00 am games - dont lose and drop down to the losers bracket. All of those late night games were played in the losers bracket. Also, if you dont want to have to play 6 or 7 games in one day - dont lose. Yes there are a lot of good teams in Texas from all over the state. And yes one could argue that based on this past weekend the majority of them come from the Houston area. However, using that same logic one would have to also argue that the Diamonds are the best of all of them. Also, several of these teams can beat each other on any given Sunday but based on what happened this weekend and what has happened in the past I think it is safe to say that the Diamonds win the majority of those games when it matters most.

To the poster asking about Nationals..Well our team has been the past two years, and finsihed 5th & 17th respectfully. There is no comparison of Nationals to PCB, IMHO..Nationals is the best..We went to PCB in 2006, and SEAA World in 2005...

When you show up to Nationals you know your child will be playing the best of the best in the Nationa. When you show up to PCB you know your child will be playing some good teams and spend a lot of money on bannana boat rides. There are just too many distractions in PCB for young ladies, and affects the level of play.

The scrimmages before the pool games usually sets the tone of how your team will or will not fair in the upcoming week. Find 1 or 2 California team and push your team early.

Opening ceremonies in 2007 Auburn was "kind of weak", in 2008 Montgomery opening ceremonies were awesome..Normal has held National championships before, and having the opening ceremonies at IU should be a lot of fun. Pin trading and gift exchange is about the same for NAtionals and PCB and is fun for the girls.

Coaches meeting is your "respect" to other coaches, a time to be proud you made it and a fun tradition. Listen carefully, lots of good details. We have been past two years and will be making our third trip. We have eaten with same team from Ga those two years and will be joining this year as well.

Show up with all of the correct ASA paper work, players sign in, etc.. While a pain at times, it is what makes ASA the greatest. A couple of teams were either sent home early or made to forfeit last year because incorrect information/ lack of knowledge of coaches last year at Montgomery.

Next get them on a routine when you get there..We tried to get girls up the same time each day, and even would practice early morning if we have a late afternoon game.

Scout the other team or teams, and scout some more. This is very imporatnt to your team. Do not show up with no info on the team you will be playing, via internet, or watching their pool/elim games, while girls and moms are back at hotel swimming.

Hope your preparation through out the year has been enough to compete at the highest level. Hope your team is "clicking" at the right time.

I rather finish 50th at Nationals then finish first at PCB!!! While the trip may not seem as fun, if your DD& team is serious about softball then there is no other option. If you need a vaction with a little of softball mixed in, maybe PCB is for you.

Good Luck!

Good information Comet.

As for as the HOF this past weekend the Diamonds didn't appear to have a weakness. The team played well and the organization (coaches, players and parents) showed a lot of class. Also, great teams know how to win the close games and they did win their 1 close game. The team I saw had size, speed, pitching, hitting and defense. Congratulations and good luck in OKC!

There were many good teams representing Texas this past weekend and I am sure there will be for years to come. No matter what part of Texas they are from.

Good luck to all Texas teams in HOF, State and Nats! :| :geek: :ugeek:
