WHOSE THE BEST 10U in HOUSTON METRO AND SURROUNDING AREA

by sbcoach » Mon Jun 08, 2009 6:50 am

[b]WHO CARES!!!! JUST HAD TO GET SOMEONE TO LOOK.

What a topic..I have to laugh every time I see these kind of postings. Over 200 postings...Parents wasting too much time trying to figure out whose the best team at this age division. Get their team name in the "spot light"

I've been through this age division a couple of times, and I'm sure I was as guilty as the next. But looking back, my guess would be that a large percentage of the kids at this age play "select" ball because their parents took them out to a tryout. As adults, we run them crazy all year playing a ridiculous schedule with a short 4 week break at Christmas if their lucky. Then we as parents tell them they have to miss this or that with their friends because "they" made a commitment to the team.....HAHAHAHAHA!!! Too funny!!!!

IMO, these kids are being pushed too hard too early. I believe the end result is the growing number of shoulder and knee injuries that we are seeing in the early teen years.

Anyways, that is just my take on this matter.

sbcoach,

If the kids where not playing an organized sport, what would they be doing? Sitting around watching tv, playing video games, getting into trouble with the wrong crowds?

The game helps to add structure and teamwork to their lives. Learning to set goals and working together to reach those goals. Yes I agree that some parents are to rigid but they would be too rigid if they were in cheerleading, band, choir etc. Overall the game is good for the kids.
MOst kids play because they want to not because they are forced to. The ones who do not want to play start dropping out at 10u and up.

I agree that to much is put on what team is the best, but this is just a bench mark to strive for. To set goals to work toward and try to achieve. In my book every kid who plays and trys is #1, because they are putting forth the effort. Parents should suport them not critize them

Ahhh.. how 'bout studying, going to school, getting ready for college...you know all those extra-cirricular activities that might steer them away from the demise of the autoworker.

Playing sports = good

Kicking ass in school = better

Being a well rounded and active student and not just being, well, round and inactive = best

Absolutely! Unfortunately, too many seem to think that it's one or the other. Go to your local college showcase and pick up a team brochure. Many of the SAT scores are quite alarming.

The 10's are great. We all know each other either at the field or here on the bucket. I have the up most respect for most all of the parents. We do push our DD only because she wants to. She has more passion for the game and hates to loose. There are many of us that are in the same boat and wish only the best for their DD. You know if in the future she chooses to go another route in life than she will receive the greatest support from the home front.
I think that all of the top teams are in the same situation. Most of their girls have that passion and desire to play at a high level. these 10's are not pushed any more than a 12,14 16 or 18.
As someone stated, your can lay it in front of the girls. What they do with it is their choice.

In fact, I was the president of the band, played high school sports too...but the focus was grades. 30 years later...I'm on Obama's radar since last year's agi was over $500,000. Seems that he wants me to help pay your healthcare.

...just sayin'...

Points are all well taken. Strayed a bit from the root of my post. While I understand this can be a friendly forum to communicate with one another, there is still a lot of focus on who is the "best".

I agree that sports help provide a great foundation for our young kids and there are many life lessons learned along the way, but I have been around long enough to know that most kids between the ages of 8-12 that are playing "select" sports don't have free reign to make their own choices.

These young kids play 10 months out of the year with very little time given to just take a break. IMO, we need to do a better job of managing their playing schedule and put more focus on the conditioning and training of these young kids. To my point, maybe we would be seeing less injuries down the road.

I understand that everyone wants their DD to be the best they can be, but at this age division, it's not about who is the "best" team.

Again, just my thoughts...
