12UA THIS WEEKEND IN TYLER - WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?

by ASpringer » Thu Jun 11, 2009 1:52 pm

Well Grandmaster,
It is Springer and I will bring some Pepto Bismo and 7up for your upset stomach.
First of all, the Knockouts have zero to do with the running of this tournament. The only reason they were called the host team is for the simple reason that they were the only team in a 7 county district playing in this tournament. The team is made up of kids from all over East Texas. They only have 1-2 kids on the team from Tyler if that.
As far as the draw, I had nothing to do with it nor was I there. The draw was suppose to take place on Tuesday however the tournament director did not receive the new 3 game bracket template so it was done on Wednesday. I guarantee you, the tournament director is not sitting around trying to fix the bracket to favor any team. He has no ideal of who the top teams are in 12u or any other division for that matter. It was strictly a blind drew. However if a team from the same district came up to face each other in the first game, it was tossed back in. The rest was left to luck, good or bad. However you see it. Blind draws can be rough. Believe me, I know
my 95 team the last 3 trips to ASA Nationals drew bad brackets.

Unfortunately, ASA does not have a real ranking system or do we go by a point system so the blind draw was used. As for the ranking of the teams we will leave that to the "experts ", the parents on the message boards.

Also to address the assumption that the Knockouts shifted their old coach, this board is not the place to discuss this. The kids and families on this team do not deserve it, they are a respectable group. It is very unfortunate that this happened to them. And as for an easy route to Nationals. They have no intentions of going to ASA Nationals.

I want to wish good luck and safe travel to all the teams coming to Tyler. We look forward to watching some great ball this weekend. If I can be of any help this weekend please let me know. The tournament director for the tournament is Van Jordon who is also the district commissioner for Dist 25

Dist 25 needs to be cleaned up. There was no blind draw and this bracket was fixed.

I have to admit that this makes the most sense. Blind drawer, maybe somone from knockouts was only putting one name in the hat at a time.

Knockouts are you kidding me knockouts? they didn't fix the bracket. even if they did they couldn't win with with the coach they have on third. they all better wake up and realize how bad they screwed up by giving the real coach the boot............ someday kevin will grow up and know this.........................................................................

FirenSmoke sounds like Robert Grey, the former East Texas Longhorns coach, or maybe a close personal friend. Give it up, like Springer said, this ISN'T the forum to get personal. Kevin is a class act coach. Sour Grapes BIG TIME.

For the record, I've never seen the Knockouts play, just live north of the area and know the news in the papers. As far as errors on third base I have no clue. Just know the previous coach and the current coach. If my kid had been on the ETx Longhorns team, I would have taken her off before getting involved in all that. Seems like Kevin is working hard to make the best of a bad situation.
