Once in High School, if your DD is not playing travel ball in the Fall, you are limiting her in the recruiting department. In addition, the longer she stays away from the softball field the better the chances that she will fall behind other players, especially at the older ages. We took off most of August and most of January this past year but with all of our players in HS this year, who knows when we'll start back up in the Spring.

Lefty, could you come to my house and explain this to my remaining daughter? Older dd heads off to her dream and younger is playing vb, track, and softball, she did finally bag basketball. I see kids without her talent who because of focusing on softball, are passing her by. But, who am I , just dad and dads dont know sxxx.

I know what you mean for sure! If I had recommended to DD that she only play Softball she would probably be playing every sport possible. As it turned out, everytime I would ask her if she wanted to try something else, she would think about it and 2 seconds later tell me that Softball is what she wants to do. The past 2 years I think that has helped her mentally and her play on the field. Some can do it though and still progress, ultimately it is up to them. I for one and grateful :D
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

Here in Houston we officially have 2 weeks between the end of Nats and the first tryouts. The week after Nats, HS volleyball tryouts start, DD has 2-a-days all this week - too tired to work on softball. Next week, the same, and then softball tryouts. So she got about 3 days off in total. Last fall, I viewed every minute spent playing v-ball as a waste (DD is 5'6") and time that should have been spent working on softball skills. But, as you guys said, what do I know, I'm just the dad. This year, I've made my peace with it. DD is happy, there will be a little less softball than I would want, but I will admit that she knows where her ultimate destiny in sports is (softball) and the time she spends on softball is really focused at this point -like Lefty said. Volleyball keeps her in shape, and adds to her appetite for softball. Who am I to say otherwise

I can understand that, though my sister played volleyball on a college scholraship at 5'7" as a setter (however you spell it). But my girl is 12 and 5'9", not that she will admit it, she still says she is 5'7". I swear I caught her bending down a little fo the team picture in Colorado, but she won't confess to it. Very odd actually, my son is 10 and 5'4", neither want to be tall and complain about it often. Of course I am only the Dad who tells them "There are plenty of kids who would love to be your size, just wait and see" but what do I know...Dads are crazy like that

I wish mine would consider trying setting - the team could use help in that area, but she loves the outside hitter role and even though she's got a great vertical jump, you can't make up for the fact that 5'6" aint the same as 5'10" or 6'0".

Genetics is funny - i'm over 6 ft tall, my wife is 5'9", my oldest kid (boy) is 6'5" but not an athlete, and then comes DD, the jock, but the shrimp in the family. Go figure...
