How did tryouts in 14U Houston go today?

by O'Pahlease » Sat Aug 15, 2009 8:14 pm

Many of the top 12U teams moving up to 14U held tryouts today. With so many conflicts what kind of turnout did you experience?

Fury
Aces
Fort Bend Thunder
Peppers

How about the new teams?

Texas Storm - Raley
Texas Lite

Peppers had 15 and a suprise at the end.

They aren't affiliated with the Peppers anymore :o

Would have been nice to know that beforehand.

Texas Storm - Raley

This try-out had a crazy turn-out. The Storm did a great job of keeping everything moving. They had 54 girl try-out in little more than 3 hours. Pitchers and catchers stayed a bit later than position players so not sure about them.

I was impressed on how the coaching staff with Texas Storm kept everything going smooth. There were alot of girls! It was interesting to see what players were there. A few bandits, ice 96, peppers, thunder, shock wave, and phantomz. She could pick a very good team out of this tryout.

Out of curiosity, would it have made a difference in your decision to go to the tryout? It's a tough thing when a team decides they need to make a name change or leave an org. for whatever the reason. If they announce it beforehand they take the chance of parents thinking something is wrong or something too big is changing and ultimately, who cares if they are no longer with the org.? What real difference does it make, unless all the coaches and players are different too obviously. I do see that announcing it after tryouts, could be considered a "bait and switch" but what other choice do they really have? At least your being told of the change before the team is finalized, right?
I don't care one way or the other about the peppers change but I am interested in how others would announce this change if their team were doing it.
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

I announced it from the get go and you can see what it does as all but three Bandit gilrs were at the Storm tryout yesterday and several of them at the Aces tryout as well. I lost a few commitments when i said I wasn't going to do a 14U team, but still plan on being able to put together a competetive team.

The Storm tryouts were very well run. With the talent that was trying out this should be a very good team right off the bat. If these girls can play as a team they should be one of the best in Houston. Hopefully coach will be able to control the ego that some of these parents bring with them.

I hope a few of the 56 players that showed up make it on over to Pearland to tryout for the Phantomz Organization. Things are looking up in Pearland. I heard the Storm team has quite a few Ex-bandits on there. I wish them all the luck in the world.

12u Power was run well at Baseball USA this morning. Ice 96 were on the other field with a good turn out, heard they merged with the 14u Texas Lite.
