Shoulders leading hips

What's on your mind?

by TNSoftballDad » Sun Mar 30, 2008 5:16 pm

Took some pictures of DD hitting side and front toss this afternoon, and one thing I noticed is that her shoulders are rotating ahead of her hips.

What are some drills/cues that we can do/use in order to reverse that? It would help if I understood what is causing this as well, if anyone has any ideas.

Why do you think this is bad?

Do you think it typical or atypical for a hitter's shoulders to lead the hips?

That time frame between when the hips fire and the shoulders fire is around .2 of second.

Of course, you might want your child hitting in some other fashion and so, disregard this if that is what you are looking for.

BTW, my daughter's hips will lead her shoulders but we intend to have that work as a unit in rhythm or in a "link." Now maybe the key to what you're looking for might not be the spacing of the hips and then the shoulders, it might really mean she needs to load her core better. JMHO!

Well said. I believe that may be the root issue.

We'll give that a try.

Point of clarification - I think that you mean 0.02 seconds, not 0.2. The whole swing takes less than 0.2. and pitch release to the plate is something like 0.45.

Scott, I'm glad you're here protecting my back. Yes, I was in error on the timing. The fix still might be core work. THANKS SCOTT!
