I have to back Spaz on this one. Although there are very good, quality teams that don't make it to ASA Nationals every year, the best of the best are there. So, if I place 33rd at ASA Nats and 15th at USSSA, or even 10th, I should play USSSA? A recruiter is going to look at the tournament experience the same way? No way.

"If ASA is that important then we all need to quit spending our time and money on Showcase tournaments and travel across the US to ASA qualifiers." I believe a college recruiter, with 2 very similar girls at the same position, would choose the one who had competed mentally and physically with the highest level teams.

Let's take this post for example. Last I looked 95 Glory is looking like the overwhelming favorite and can beat any 14U team around here. 12U ASA Nationals last year, they went 1-2. We all know they are a fantastic team, but put them with Lakewood, Victory, Corona Angels, etc, and those victories don't come as easy. Send them to USSSA, I bet they come home A LOT better than 1-2.

Unfortunately one or more quality teams won't qualify for ASA Nationals..............and in my opinion that's OK with me. That's why we play these tournaments! Do the best teams always qualify? NO !!! Are they consistantly placed? most of the time the best teams are......... If my DD's team can't get a berth by earning one at the ASA qualifiers, STATE, or Regionals, then we should pack it in !!..............because we certainly don't deserve to go!!!

ASA is one of the only organizations (or only one !! not sure about NSA in the east) that you actually have to earn a berth to their Nationals!! (did I say....... EARN ! oops.... my bad!)
Just Qualifying is an accomplishment in itself !!

Your number one goal should be to qualify for ASA but it is good to have a back up plan just in case you do not make it so that your girls will gain experience. Back up could be AFA,USSSA,USFA,NSA.

ASA definatly brings the best.

I have been to ASA and USFA and I will admit there are more weak teams at USFA but I felt the the top teams at USFA could have competed with the top teams I saw at ASA. I know some teams last that went to ASA because other teams that qualified decided not to go so they got the call. I guess this is why I thought the way I did. If the #7 or #8 team at regionals gets in because others choose not to go are they the best of the best? I may be very wrong in my thinking but I think it would hard to tell someone who is a National Champ at a non ASA championship that would get more respect if they were 20th at ASA.

I have never been to NFA or USSSA so I can't comment on them. I guess someone needs to tell the Glory to remove their accomplishments at USSSA off their website and just leave up the ASA accomplishments.

I know the Cali teams are pro ASA but have you guy's ever been to a different Nationals or if you don't qualify do you just go to Western ASA?

I think Glory's (or anyone's) USSSA/USFA/NSA/AFA accomplishments should be posted and they should be very proud. And no, the best of the best aren't the ones who place 7th or 8th on a handed down berth or got in because they were local to fill up the pool.

However:
2007 USSSA 12U Elite World Series- 7 teams
2007 USSSA 12U Fastpitch World Series- 24 teams
2007 USFA 12U "A" World Series- lots of teams, not one team from AZ, CA, NV, WA, or OR. In fact, @95% of the field from the south/southeast.

I wouldn't want to draw GA Mustangs, Deer Park TPS, or the '94 Bombers in any tournament, but how do you think they would do with the west coast teams? Maybe we'll see in 2009 at 14U Nationals in Marietta. CA teams do whatever it takes to go ASA and it'll be in the SE teams backyard. I also think it's an age thing. As the teams get older, they are willing to spend the money to go ASA, just not as important at 10 or 12U.

Every team should go wherever they can compete well and have the best experience, but there is a pecking order and ASA is king.

I saw teams with a great pitcher and 3-4 hitters win because nobody could her and they were able to score a couple runs. Defense for some of theses teams did not look strong but with only 1 or 2 hits a game they did noy have to be.

Every team should go wherever they can compete well and have the best experience, but there is a pecking order and ASA is king.

I guess I may have to change my way of thinking. Maybe after I watch some 14U in Midland I'll have to change my mind.

Maybe out of central Texas but not over all and not above R.R. Blaze from central Texas.

Your daughter must play for Freeze.
