Which division are you really playing?

by Texas Two Step » Tue Sep 01, 2009 10:13 pm

Is it just me? Or shouldn't we just call it like it is? Tournaments post 12u-18u divisions. But if all the teams in an age division are 16u teams, shouldn't we call that a 16u division not an 18u division? If all the teams are 14u teams, shouldn't we call that a 14u division not a 16u division?

Kind of sad that we have teams who have to play up just to play the better teams in their own division. And then you have some teams who think they're better than they really are playing up two age divisions so they can say they are supposedly playing 18u tournaments. Wow, what has the softball world come to?

Texas Two Step, can't teams play up? If not, then why not? Let me guess, you signed up for a 'B' tournament and it will not make because everyone is playing up to get better. Not all teams are 16U that signed up for 18U.

Double edged sword-Teams that actually do that get labeled as trophy hunters because tournaments are so saturated with bad teams, especially at the younger levels. Teams that play up "think they're better than they really are" even though in reality they are just trying to make themselves better by playing tougher competition. If all those N Texas imposter A teams would actually play in A tournaments and let the scrubs play in the others you might actually be able to pull this off.

How probable would this situation be...

16u Tournament filled with so called 14u teams (Someteam95 or Myteam 14u)

They say ok, lets listen to TTS and move this to a 14u Tournament...

Suddenly 5 or 6 players are not eligible. Some of these teams, not all, not the top teams, but some still call themselves 14u or 95s but have a few 94, 93s on the roster (pitcher/catcher) that are not eligible for a 14u tourney
