Replacing Michelle

Off topic. Home for jokes and other misc. stuff.

Very interesting….don’t you think?!

At the top right hand corner of Page 17 of the New York Post
of January 24th, 2009 , was a short column entitled "Replacing Michelle" in the National Review "Th e Week" column. I found this interesting, so here it is, word for word, as it appeared:
" Some employees are simply irreplaceable. Take Michelle Obama: The University of Chicago Medical center hired her in 2002 to run "programs for community relations, neighborhood outreach, volunteer recruitment, staff diversity and minority contracting" .

In 2005 the hospital raised her salary from $120,000 to $317,000 - nearly twice what her husband made as a Senator.
Oh did we mention that her husband had just become a US Senator?
He sure had. Requested a $1 million earmark for the UC Medical Center, in fact.
Way to network Michelle!
But now that Mrs. Obama has resigned, the hospital says her position will remain unfilled. How can that be, if the work she did was vital enough to be worth $317,000?
Let me add that Michelle's position was a part time, 20 hour a week job. And to think they were critical of Blagoyovich' s wife for taking $100,000 in a fuzzy real estate commission."
My thoughts: How did this bit of quid pro quo corruption escape the sharp
reporters that dug through Sarah Palin's garbage and kindergarten files?
Unbelievable!

Good find.

How they missed it is they didn't look for it. This is the least vetted president in history.

So let me see if I understand the structure of your argument. Corruption in politics is common, therefore it's no big deal that the president is manifestly corrupt. Okay.

They call that "appeal to practice"...it's a named logical fallacy. The fact that corruption is rampant in politics doesn't make it right, and excusing the president and first lady's actions on that basis is pathetic.

G, I gotta agree. My dad was a lifelong union member and I heard that same 'well we all know (down a beer) that the big business (evil darth vader) people are corrupt so its only right for the union and their supporters to be corrupt (down more beer - be careful, dont think)'.

No fella's ... not excusing it at all ... Just pointing out as Skarp did that "Corruption in politics is common" ... it all upsets and disgusts me ... I'm not excusing it or embracing it ... There are very few politicians of either party that I believe are not corrupt or self serving ... Men or Woman of such high moral standards that they would put the good of this great country ahead of their own ...

Then why the :o , :o , :o , :o , :o ...and especially why the  ??

I've read and reread your post, and I can't find any possible interpretation inconsistent with a sarcastic attempt to dismiss the conduct as not being noteworthy...in essence, to excuse it.

G, if it all "upsets and disgusts" you, you have a very unique way of conveying that.
