Just for the record.... I am PRO Boom Boxes.....

But i think if you know me - you already knew that.
When asked how many times she hit Tiger with the golf club, she responded, "I'm not sure...put me down for an 8!

Wow...this post has gone from ban bb to offensive lyrics to parenting skills to religious statements and then to who knows what's next. Going way out of bounds on this one guys/gals. BB are to pump the girls, should be used between innings at a volume that is not offensive to those around you. If you have a problem with the volume at the next field, ask the UIC to have them turn it down, simple as that. If the parents become nasty well...you can't legislate intelligence or common sense no matter how hard you try. As to the music they listen to, it is the same stuff on the radio and they download on their ipods, whats the big deal? I am PRO boom boxes with the above conditions and have witnessed the positive effect it can have on the team. All the rest is just blibber blabber...yes that is a technical term.

Monkeys,

The umpires do not have any authority in this area and until the tournament directors or ASA ect take action to ban them this will not be addressed. Your UIC idea isnt going to resolve the problem. They wont address it unless there is a rule put in place about them. This was from a group of umpires I talked to while at this tournament. They suggested I write ASA or address this with the TD.

Actually, I beg to differ with you. We were in Montgomery Alabama, the armpit of the US imho and our team had always used a bb between innings with no complaints as far as I know. The girls did the usual and the ump came over and told my dd to turn it off, this was not a disco, it was a sb game. She did as instructed. Maybe this was an Alabama thing or maybe this was this umps personal peeve BUT point is, the ump can control the atmosphere at the game. Maybe the umps you were talking to don't want to assert their authority which would be a surprise to me since I haven't met one yet that didn't.

The boom-box crowd is always oblivious to the opinions of those around them...it's the characteristic that allows them to rudely infringe on everyone else in the first place.

yeah,,,, just put it on in between innings to pump the girls up. ...... ok, ill give in alittle because I saw it this weekend but it was fall ball.... having a boom box for pregame warmup when you are away from the crowds and the games is fine,,, but in between innings at a park with a tournament going is wreck.
The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are the things that endure.
These qualities are so much more important than the events that occur.

To all boombox supporters: go ahead, bring 'em in, crank 'em up, warmups, between innings, whatever. You are only hastening their demise. The sooner you get more people to complain up line, the sooner the ban will be put into effect, and you won't even be able to carry them into the park. It's only a matter of time.... 8-)

BOOM BOX SUPPORTERS UNITE!!!! Softball is about fun, teamwork and love of the game. I can't think of one sport, college or professional that does not have music included as a part of the enjoyment. If anyone ever asked one of our girls to turn it down or off, they did it. If someone was fuming on another field and didn't say anthing about it then shame on them. Sounds to me like most of the posts were about someone being irritated at the volume or music choice. Adults need to get over themselves...its not about us! I don't like country music but I don't get upset or offended when someone plays it around me loudly or otherwise. For that matter, I don't like to listen to screaming and crying siblings either but when you are in public you have to deal with those little irritations.

I would have to agree with MonkeysMom. My daughter has been playing select ball for several years and many teams have these Boom Boxes. Only once have I seen an issue arise, and both parents were out of line in the way they approached the situation. Our team has never been affected by another teams Boom Box, and to be honest, during a game I never even notice the other teams Boom Box playing. The girls like listening to them between innings, and it is ABOUT THE GIRLS...not the adults.

I would agree that teams should monitor noise levels and be respectful of others, including monitoring the content of the music. As for the style of music, I could care less...again it is ABOUT THE GIRLS...not the adults.

Do not let one or two jerks ruin it for everyone...reminds me of the Zero Tolerence garbage in schools. Treat each situation with common sense and things usually go well. If someone gets out of line then deal with that individual person.
