Boom Boxes at Softball tournaments. TD's Outlaw them.

I can't think of one sport, college or professional that does not have music included as a part of the enjoyment. If anyone ever asked one of our girls to turn it down or off, they did it. If someone was fuming on another field and didn't say anthing about it then shame on them. Sounds to me like most of the posts were about someone being irritated at the volume or music choice. Adults need to get over themselves...its not about us! I don't like country music but I don't get upset or offended when someone plays it around me loudly or otherwise. For that matter, I don't like to listen to screaming and crying siblings either but when you are in public you have to deal with those little irritations.

Thank God I now know a team where I can sit in the middle of the parents in the stands and smoke my pungent clove cigs. Even while they're eating. Hey, I can puff in time with the music. Sweet.

Right. It should be incumbent upon people trying to watch softball at an adjacent field to come over and ask you obnoxious jackasses to turn your music down. There's no duty on your part to be the slightest bit respectful in the first place.

Here's the thing about dealing with people who think the world revolves around them: when you ask them to change their conduct they at best tell you to F off, and at worst get physically confrontational or purposefully become even more obnoxious than they already were. Judging from your comments on here, I doubt very seriously that you would be receptive to complaints from anyone about your music. After all, it's about the girls, right?

Has it occurred to you that most players on most teams might not be interested in listening to loud, lousy music at the softball field either? When you say it's about the girls, what you really mean is that it's about YOUR girls, and to hell with everyone else. Not exactly surprising...that's the very essence of the boombox mentality.

Skarp:

Perhaps a library would be more to your preference? There are a very limited individuals who enjoy being a pain in the backside, or in your words, an "obnoxious jackass".

Again, deal with those limited "obnoxious jackasses", and don't lump everyone in the same group. I would venture to say that in about 99 percent of the cases they don't realize it is bothering you, and if you politely ask nicely for them to turn it down a little I am sure most would accomodate. If they don't then let that isolated case be handled by the TD.

As for the girls, I have yet to hear one girl complain about the boomboxes during several years of being involved in select ball. Furthermore, I know our girls are focused when on the field and I have never seen the girls affected by another teams boombox regardless of how loud it is playing.

If you're a person who needs to be told to keep your music down to an acceptable level at a place like a softball field, then you are an obnoxious jackass and my comments here are directed at you--i.e., I'm "dealing" with you right here in this thread. If that doesn't describe you, then you shouldn't have any issue with my comments.

again it is ABOUT THE GIRLS...not the adults.

Never seen a dd assemble much less pay for one of those noise contraptions.

Seems as though maturity coincides directly with age. Teach your children well. Teach them to respect others.

Obviously from your post, a library would be a good choice because you need to learn how to read. The previous posts spoke of music in between innings with appropriate/acceptable volume. Your previous posts are all assumptions and you know what they say about assuming.

What level of reading comprehension were you speaking of?

The hallmark of someone with class is their respect and concern for others. IMO the opposite is true as well.

Make sure you old farts remember to put your teeth in before you leave the house.

For those with boomboxes (that play music at appropriate times, levels, etc), thank you. My DD and I love it.

I did find myself this week turning her music down in the car and thinking that's just too loud. Dangit, I have turned into my mom.
