You have now lost what little, it any, credibility you had. I wish you would have started this thread with a statement as ignorant as this. I wouldn't have wasted my time replying to it.

I can agree with you, but there are lots of umpires that do not know the rules.

They knew the rules 20, 15, or 5 years ago when they starting umpiring , but have not picked up a NEW rule book since. These are the worst umpires because they think they know the rules, and don't..

My opinion, umpires should never interact with anything that comes from outside the fence. Period....Coaches should police the parents.

you bring up a good point Lonestar...why aren't umpires required to attend clinics, workshops, classes to learn or re-learn more? This would allow the place and time for them to discuss amongst each other plays and how they should have been ruled. What profession doesn't do that?
It's my opinion....and that's all that matters!!

Explain to me then Mr. Topper how you can explain to a 9/10 year old or even up to 18 that the same pitch that was called a strike is being called a ball now?? Or at first the umpire calls them high one inning, then low the next, then calls the corners??? It's a guessing game, that's what it is... I wonder if blues are mandated to get their vision checked yearly in order to ump?? Maybe that's the problem, they can't see... :ugeek:

Topper:

While I do not believe in showing up ump's at games because of sportsmanship, the umpiring has went steadily down in quality while the umpire fees have gone steadily upward. We expect a great job, not average, for $35-$40 an hour and 15 minutes of work. There are people that went to college for four years that are not pulling that outrageous rate.

Additionally, while your anaolgy about waitresses, etc. is a nice attempt, we are not paying them the rates umps are getting. While there are many decent umpires, they are getting paid by the teams and we expect a quality job.

My explaination is that I am not responsible nor accountable for every bad umpire working. Nor am I an apologist for bad umpiring. I thought this thread was about how much crap an umpire should put up with, not how bad youth ball umpires are. You probably won't get much argument from me about the latter. The problem is that your posts have done very little to show that you have any clue whatsoever about umpiring certainly, but possibly softball in general.

BTW, how do you know I'm a "Mr."?
