What's up with Team Mizuno?

by knucklecurve » Wed Nov 11, 2009 7:46 am

I kind of laugh when people make assumptions about coaches when they don't know anything about them, how they run there practices, how well respected they are by the parents and players and how good there team is. I have talked to some people and been told these coaches turned a first year 10U team into a very well respected team which will be one of the most solid teams around in 2010. I have heard other pretty well respected coaches say nothing but good things about these coaches so that ought to tell you a little something. As far as national champions go, I don't know that I heard anyone say that they were going to be national champions. Maybe these coaches don't have to get on HB to prove anything, who they are or whatever sour people like txfastpitchsoftball think about how they go about there business. Maybe these are coaches who take care of there business on the field and don't use a computer to try and prove who they are or who they are not. That might just be the sign of a good coach in its self! Good luck to you Team Mizuno.

I think part of the problem here is that the posts this organization has been making here and on VTD are from some phantom representative with very little detail. Maybe the coaches are the best in DFW. Maybe they are a total joke. Maybe it's Mike Candrea in disguise. The public has no idea and is forced to speculate. How does one even know the coaches the other posters are bad mouthing have anything to do with Team Mizuno? I think it's fair to ask what it is that makes them "proven" and to not have to spend a Saturday or Sunday investigating to find out. If they proved it on the field and not on a computer, I would think that is a positive thing. Why not come out and say it? An on the field proven coach would surely get a good turnout at tryouts.

This the one? No shame in that. They are a good team!

The point being made, is here is yet another slow pitch dad (although a very, very, very good one) who thinks he knows something about national-level fastpitch softball just because he had some local success at 10u. Maybe he will build the next OC Batbusters, but more likely he will succeed only in watering down the talent pool even more.

My issue, if I have one, is that start-up organizations like this are the problem and not the solution to what is preventing North Texas from competing at the national level at 14u, 16u, and 18u Gold. North Texas would be better served if this guy and his group joined a solid organization and helped strengthen it.

Do we REALLY need another organization in North Texas when we have the Texas Glory-Shelton & Adkins, Texas Elite, FW Batbusters, Texas Fusion, American Freedom, Texas Travelers, D-BAT, Texas Xtreme, Allen Xtreme Eagles, Texas Pride, Team Aliiance, McKinney Fireballs, etc. Seriously? Do we need another organizaton, and if so, why?

But for inquiring minds who want to know:
"Dewayne (Green) grew up in Athens, Tx. He played high school baseball, and was a four year starter at third base. Dewayne earned a full ride scholarship to North Texas State, played one year and the baseball program folded. From there he played at Richland College. After graduating college, he played baseball in the Texas/Louisiana league for four years and then started playing professional mens (slowpitch) softball. His tenure playing professional softball enabled him to travel all over where he could play and put on exhibitions. He earned three time All World honors and was selected as one of the top 125 hitters in the world which earned him the right to compete in National Homerun Hitting Contest where he placed 40th in the world. Along with his hitting accolades, Dewayne's teams won 4 World Championships at the Super Major Level. He can also claim a patent for the invention of a hitting training tool called the "Swing Coach", which is used at select ball camps.

Dewayne has coached select baseball and every year his teams ranked at or near the top nationally. He is now running the NT Rampage select softball team, and has assembled an excellent coaching staff for support."

The Mizuno connection is from his slowpitch playing days, and again, it isn't really Mizuno doing anything except giving the same team discount that Trevino's group has. There are Mizuno teams all over the country, and few if any are truly national caliber.

WOW....someone definitely knows how to piss in a persons cheerios...you must have been rubbed the wrong way by someone today, or by someone involved in all of this MIZUNO stuff....
You know, this doesn't sound like somebody starting up a "joe's ribs" select ball team, it sound like whoever Dewayne Greene is, if that is who is going to be doing the MIZUNO deal, is trying to take the perception of DFW ball to another level...And btw, since you're so CSI in finding out all of these factoids about people and teams...who the F are you associated with to be on such the highhorse that you are on, preaching to us all....mothers and fathers of DD's that are coming of the older ages 11-15, and if they have enough talent, and have been around this sort of deal for 5-6 plus years now will see what all of this is all about...and if it isn't perceived by them to be a step in the direction that they want to take, then they won't take it...but like I said, I'm sure whoever runs MIZUNO in the area doesn't just GIVE these things out, I'm not an expert, but it looks like they didn't walk up to some rec ball team and say, "hey, you guys heard of this club ball?? ya'll want to get in on that, here use our name"....

I have heard enough of the REVEREND "TXFPSOFTBALL"...church dismissed...

By the responses, I would say it's definitely the NT Rampage. The bio is from the NT Rampage website by the way.

And, yes, Mizuno does just give these sponsorships out if you know the right people at Mizuno. It's nothing a but a team discount on gear for an agreement to wear the Mizuno brand and put Mizuno in your name. Five or ten years ago most of the name clubs had some kind of deal and used the national brand name, but now few if any of the big name clubs do it. The Glory have a deal with Wilson and the Texas Elite have a deal with Easton, but they dropped the brand name from their club name years ago. Go do a VTD search and see how many Mizuno, Ringor, or Tanel teams are national caliber anything.

If you and the NT Rampage are going to come on VTD and Heybucket and call out North Texas softball as "watered down," and otherwise incapable of competing at a national level without your Team Mizuno club saving the day, then you better get prepared to be called out yourself.

Tell us why North Texas needs yet another daddy coach at 10u starting an "organization."

Disclaimer: I am in now way affliated or know who TXFASTPITCHSOFTBALL is.

But I see where and why he is looking at it with some skepticism. Big org small org single team it doesn't make a difference but the whole smoke screen approach is not neccessary, especially when it seems like the person knows at least a decent amount about the sport. I guess he could be trying to generate buzz and it has worked, I have had two people ask me what I know about them which is nothing. As for the area having too many teams and there being many large orgs thats true but if he can find a group or groups that will put their faith in him what the heck add another and who are the masses to judge so good luck Team Mizuno.

TXFPSOFTBALL...wtf, I didn't say anything about the area being "watered down", YOU DID!! And it is a true statement, but YOU made it!! You are awfully full of accusations and ASSsumptions, The fact that you stated is that those teams "started" with those name affiliations and subsequently dropped them once they reached a certain level of recognition, but they still have the affiliations!! There are some that still use affiliations in the namesakes, "Worth Firecrackers, Team Anderson" come to mind right off hand. Although that is a very small sample group, I get your point. Would it be possible, that if someone were going to do something like this, they would likely think, "We need a name that is recognized!" Then, they couple it with local recognition of their current situation, and have a very well laid out set of plans to build something. Now, can you seriously sit there and think that this is going to happen overnight. These types of transformation take years to develop. By the time they get this thing wherever they try to get it, PASSING or FAILING, if you are still this fired up about it..then you need to take a break from softball, and we can get you a nice little padded room, with ESPNU playing...

Actually, your NT Rampage parent Knucklecurve made it.

And, frankly, yes, whenever you newbie 10u parents come on heybucket with "we'll save North Texas softball" mantra, it irrates us old farts a bit. We were here competing at a national level when your 10u DD was still in diapers, and we'll be here after your Team Mizuno organization folds and joins the Glory, Elite, Batbusters, etc.

Friend of a perent if you really need to know. Maybe the coach of NT Rampage isn't trying to sell himself, maybe he doesn't make it all about himself like someone else might (txfastpitchsoftball). From the sounds of it he is just announcing a tryout for a team that might just be run differently than the other orgs. Isn't the free market a wonderful thing. I just can't figure out why all the bashing. I don't think Mizuno being involved has anything to do with national caliber, I think it is a coaches perogitive to be affiliated with a brand name product if he so chooses, but if it turns out that he builds a national caliber team then good for them and a NTX team. Besides, why do you care so much? You are acting like you have something to lose or that this coach did something to you to go and post everything you know about the guy or could find out about this coach on this site??? That seems freaky to me!!
