Pool games clarification

by liveintex » Tue Nov 17, 2009 11:06 am

Ran across a situation this past weekend that I'd like to get opinions on.

In the 12U Garland Toys for Tots tourney a team did not play any pool games and the reasoning was that they may choose not to play in them.

A few months ago a team, also at a Garland tourney, a 10U team had a last minute conflict their pool games and asked to forfeit but were told that they had to play them or risk forfeiting their whole entry.

I am not apart of either of the teams listed but this seems to me a double standard. Besides the age difference the only real difference between the 2 teams was that the 12U team is a part of a very large program based out of the Plano area.

Are pool games now optional?

The only large organizations in 12U T4T in Garland were Glory (Sunnyvale) and Batbusters (Southlake). You could maybe even say Fireballs (McKinney) Some team actually skipped Saturday pool games?

I think to clarify though,
It's up to the TD. If they say you need to check in prior to your 1st pool game and you don't and they want to forfeit your entire draw, that's up to them. I think most TDs are reasonable enough to try and work with teams if needed and I know for a fact that John is.

Don't knows if this was the situation but asking ahead to not play pool games and just not coming at the last minute are totally different. Once pool games are posted I agree that if you miss you forfeit. That leaves the teams you are opposite without pool games so they don't get their guarantee either and scheduling doesn't alwAys allow those changes without messing with travel schedules of many teams. If TD knows in advance then u just don't put that team in the mix and it is no problem.

I did misspeak about the location of the team but you did mention them; I didn't realize that pool games were an option. Thread can be closed now that I received the info that I did. Thanks,
