I see too many people getting caught up in the b.s. of going for the throat at 9yrs old and it gives kids a bad taste, cmon people let the little ones enjoy the game while they are learning, it gets serious enough quick enough, geez

The problem I see is way to much chirping and not enough truly teaching the game, and I understand that at 10's you are going to have quite a few dads coaching that really cant teach the game, well when Suzy boots one or Sally goes down swinging at one over her head, encourage them and dont yell at them or give them bad body language, as they truly are trying what you have been hopefully teaching them. Dont get me wrong there are a lot of good dads that really understand this, but the bad apples really stand out and it is very discouraging.

I would love for my daughter to have had quality instruction during her 8u season and despite not having good athletes athletes, maybe the game could've been more enjoyable and the team might've even better more competitive. But, she was on a team where head coach's daughter hated the game, but was being forced to play, so that other girl would do things deliberately to sabotage her team. Add to that the fact that there were 4-5 other girls who didn't want to be there, but their parents - friends of the coach - wanted them to play.

It wasn't about half the girls having talent and the other half not. Half the team just had little to no interest in playing from day one and the parents weren't listening. The head coach is returning this year, so since our league does not allow 'do not draft' requests, I informed the league that my daughter would have to move up to the higher division.

Doesn't have to be fiecely competitive, but you've gotta give the girls a good experience at ANY age.

Dont put 10's with 12's. Shoot I know one top 12's team that really could make some noise, and they are not even going to Nationals this Summer because they have finally realized, does it really matter in the grand scheme

Really, they're not going to try to go Nationals? Then I'm glad my daughter doesn't play for them. If you are on a team that you feel could do well there, why would you take that away from them? It is a very small percentage of girls playing softball across the country that even get that opportunity. It is an experience that they will always have and a memory to keep.

WOW!! This has been great conversation about the do’s and don’ts, the rights and wrongs of 10-U TRAVEL BALL! While we all have valid points of the sport, these are just our own opinions of what we feel and what we want and/or believe in. Many of us have been involved with the sport for quite some time and some of us are just getting started. I’m sure we could banter back and forth about how we should go about it with our DD. The situation here is really what you think your child & YOU are ready for. Fundamentals will come (hopefully) if you are in an atmosphere that lends to that. Goals of a team will dictate where that team is going, National play or the local level events. FINANCES and fundraising will always have a MAJOR role with this sport. First year player or 1 to 2 year seasoned vet (don’t laugh). I’m sure there are other examples that could be used also: etc, etc. Now with all that said and from the time they start to play this game till the last out of their career, it will still come down to basic skills and the DESIRE to play. CAN YOUR DD CATCH & THROW, HIT & RUN!! As we know, well most of us if you have these basic principles your DD will have a great opportunity to perform. The X’s and O’s will come as they develop (hopefully), depending on what TEAM they are on and WHO is providing the instruction.

Each Org and team has their own philosophy and goals. For some it’s about the exposure to 10-U National level play, while others are just about having fun and enjoying the moment regardless of wins or losses. Then there is the happy medium somewhere between the two. The way to look at it is “To each, their own”, so you can’t knock it!!

There will always be new kids introduced to this age level (travel or rec) trying to learn the game and basically figure it out. Then there will be the kids who were flat out just born into this game by default (older sister or brother, mother, aunt, etc).

Embrace the 10-U spirit and watch these young ladies excel no matter what level they are at. These 10-U girls “CAN PLAY BALL!!” Check it out.

Hey 10-U fans, let’s get back to what this thread was started about and intended for.
What 10-U teams in Nor Cal are out there ready to compete this 2011 Spring / Summer Season? Let’s keep the (soft) ball talk rolling about our future young ladies and their teams.

All American Sports Academy
East County Hotshots
Grapettes
Mayhem
RR Gold
Tri County Smash
California Breeze
Mizuno All American
Rocklin Hype
Roseville Heat
????????????

This is not necessary a Poll ranking thread, but instead a conversation starter for the young ones. So 10-U people and bucket heads let’s try to make this happen again!!

Well said, Slice. To each, his own.....for their own reasons, and with good reason.

A couple updates to your team list. It looks like CC Comets also has a 10U, and Mizuno has two 10U teams, an '00 and an '01.

I couldn't agree more with what Slice had to say! But above all...THESE GIRLS REALLY CAN PLAY!

Good luck to ALL 10u teams.
It's not how you start...but how you finish that counts!
