tomsmith wrote:GoldElite, you seem like a coach of a team that loves to use the "Gold or Elite" status behind your team name and play in B world series tournaments. I can assure you the coaches of that team are great coaches and know how to win and lose with sportsmanship. Unless you were there and saw the game there was only so much that team could do. Besides what does the losing team learn if the winning team steps off the base? It sounds like you were the kid that always got a participation trophy . This is travel ball not rec ball.
tomsmith (since we are now on a first name basis, I know this is difficult to follow, so I will type real slow for ya...
1) it was established (admittedly by me) earlier in this thread that I am not a coach. I do enjoy helping out when needed. But I recognize that my DD is much better off playing for someone who knows how to manage the game...
MANAGE: verb; be in charge of; administer; run
2) As slapperdad so eloquently tried to point out, my chosen name GoldElite is pretty much a knock on exactly what you accused me of being. The thing is, I was being
SATIRICAL (root word SATIRE: noun; the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's
(mean word alert) stupidity)
3) you stated "...there was only so much that team could do." Assuming you were referencing the losing team, duh...I think that was pretty obvious. If you are referencing the winning team, I agree that there is only 'so much' they could do. Point is, it doesn't appear they did it soon enough or often enough.
Here is the concept, it's simple...winning team up by 10+ and coming up to bat: first batter walks, ROE, single/double (ie gets on base). First pitch next batter has take and base runner steals. There is a great thing to work on in this situation. Now, before next pitch (pay attention, this is where it gets tricky), base runner leaves early, thus being called out with a no-pitch. Now, batter at plate repeats process. Simple as that. Let's face it, if the pitching is that bad, you can't say 'we wanted the at-bats' toget our work in. You're better off doing tee work.
4) you said "..what does the other (losing) team learn if they (winning team) step off base." My answer, which is what you were looking for, is nothing. But they also don't learn anything by getting pounded. As I stated earlier, after giving up 10 runs, the losing coach should know what they need to work on. And winter indoor practice is best used when working on scenarios...Ooops, I assume, because I don't coach.
5) sportsmanship...I'm not even gonna touch that one.
tomsmith, as me and kidcanhit figured out earlier in the thread, we are both man enough to recognize and appreciate both sides. So, while I recognize your right to have and share your opinion, there is absolutely nothing you can say that would convince me it is in the best interest of any of the girls on either team. But rather more about parents being able to say 'WE pounded them this winter"...note the WE being used in a
FACETIOUS (adjective; treating serious issues with deliberately inappropriate humor) manner
By the way, a participation trophy? Hell no! We were too poor. Our league only gave out ribbons. And that was only when an elder was there that could count. Otherwise we couldn't even keep score. See what I did there
